If fab 4 were the reason for 0-8 losses then the same fab 4 saved him in New Zealand and South Africa never understood this notion that if we lose then he had to deal with fab 4 if we win then his captaincy was the reason we won you have to admit he was a pathetic captain overseas.

Because of his exploits in LOI cricket. India won the WC in 2011 and just after that got whitewashed in England. But no one could remove a world cup winning captain back then. Then again won the CT in 2013, so 2014 was pretty safe for him even with poor overseas performances. Then of-course beating Australia in tests at home in 2013 helped it too. By the time he would have been booted out, he himself retired at the end of 2014

Didnt dhoni sycopanths give credit to dhoni in all matches India won before this final in the tourney? Final mein thalaiva Kya kar raha tha?

Sorry to say this Austin, but this logic is pure, unadulterated .

 

It's like saying that Jamaica should've selected Usain Bolt to run the 10k event in the Olympics because he was a gold medalist sprinter. 

 

Even though they're both forms of cricket, LOI and Test cricket are different formats that require certain specific set of skills.

 

There were two main reasons why the selectors back then wanted to sack Dhoni as Test captain. Number one, the whitewashes of course and number two, he had lost the dressing room. His LOI captaincy was not under threat.

 

With the seniors on their way out, the selectors wanted to rebuild the Test side with Kohli as the captain but Dhoni and Srini had other ideas and played dirty politics. 

 

Dhoni's test career started off amazingly well but once the seniors, whose performances were integral to Dhoni's early success, permanently lost their mojo, his ineptitude got exposed. It then got confirmed when he lost each and every SENA series without most of them. 

 

He will rightly go down as one of our worst ever Test captains. The regression was there for everyone to see.
