Great opportunity lost by India.  A little bit more application from the other players in the second innings and this was India's match.  Another close one goes away and again playing the catching game. First match is always a warmup match for the team..perhaps they should actually play a couple of good warmup matches.

The ball was swinging throughout the day on all days and half the time quite significantly too. Plus there was some seam movement.

 

It was never easy to bat here and therefore it was a low scoring match.

Sunil joshi stitched valuable partnership in the first innings with the tail (70+ runs) and was not out.

In the second innings, he partnered with Sachin for 36 runs and Sachin ran away (got out first). He couldn't bat with Srinath and got out. We needed 17 runs for the 3 wickets, they got only 4. Kumble's dismissal was the worst.

I agree with you in that Kohli played very well even in the second innings, but playing across the line at that stage of the match was unnecessary in hindsight. It seems too harsh to criticize him for that, but with a bunch of useless people around him, maybe he should have been more conservative.

Playing across the line is Kohli's natural game, he rarely misses a ball there, I remember back in 2011-12 ,when Kohli was just starting his career, a useless expert like akash chopra (or maybe it was manjrekar) was criticizing kohli for playing across saying this will make him a big candidate for lbw, he said Kohli would find it difficult to succeed in test cricket because of his tendency to play across, but Kohli continued to play the same way and still became successful in test cricket,  this is because Kohli is too damn good on his pads, he rarely gets out playing that shot, so stokes deserves all the credit for this wicket.

Not saying Kohli isn't good or that Stokes didn't deserve credit. Point is, at that point in time with 50 odd needed, a little more caution may have been better. Tendy shelved all off drives during his 241* at Sydney, doesn't mean he was bad at cover drives.....Kohli knew it was all on him so maybe he could have showed more restraint and just defended it.

How can it be Virat's Channai when it's overseas? We can compare it to Barbados 1997. Chennai was a home test. Home losses can't be compared to overseas losses.

Srinath Kumble were top class at least for a home test. You think Ishant and Yadav are top class test bowlers? They aren't close to Kumble and Srinath.
