And sarfaraz from the beginning (as a boy) was training hard for FC - he scored lots of runs in school and U19 cricket, and used to make big innings. we are finally seeing the fruit of that. at 24, he's at a good age too. needs to be selected in next 12 months IMO. Imagine this now; long term Shaw Dhull/vihari Gill Sarfraz/rahul Sundar/iyer Pant Bawa Thakur when he is fit/axar Hangerakar Prasidh Bumrah Vijy 1 Link to comment
express bowling
In ODIs .... Pant 125 not out and Hardik 71 in a series decider under pressure, playing in the middle order. Then Gill with a quickfire 58 as an opener. We are getting to see the core of our batting in the near future. Bodes well !! Chakdephatte
Gill was dropped after two matches in NZ. Dumbo Kohli praised him in all his press conferences and then dumped him at first sight of failure. We could have got a fitter opener, or at least a backup. Rohit, Kohli, Rahul, Pant and Pandya are guaranteed in ODIs and T20s both at the moment. SKY is excellent in T20s and has the game to do well in ODIs in lower middle order role. Gill, Ruturaj and Iyer deserves to be backed in ODIs. Iyer is good in ODIs but not good in T20Is, there are lot of weakness to fix for that format. Kishan and Samson are good in T20Is. Deepak Hooda has the game and multiple skills for both formats- ODIs and T20s. Jadeja is excellent in tests, good for ODIs and bits and pieces in T20s. Sundar is an excellent prospect in tests but bits and pieces in LOIs. Axar is a great prospect in home tests but bits and pieces in LOIs. That's for batting and all rounders. Won't go into bowling on this post as this thread is about batsman. Edited July 23, 2022 by Majestic Vk1 1 Link to comment

Lone Wolf
Dravid should invest in both Gill & Project Iyer in ODIs... Among young players these guys look most suited for ODIs.. And keeping 2023 WC in mind our Top 3 are in slump & perhaps all won't make it by then. Hooda is also another player who knows strike rotation & inns building. Keeping these players in the mix along with Pant & Hardik will bode well for us. Kishan Samson look more like T20 players along with SKY (who needs to be used at 5/6 in ODIs for impact. Somehow, in world cricket, most of the best players turn out to be good to decent test players too and can play atleast 1 white ball format. Yes, there are exceptions ... but we must look to create a core of 6 or 7 multi format players ... and then fill the rest of the slots with specialists. In batting, if we can get Pant and Gill to form a batting core ... maybe get another such batter too if available ... then we will make our team a lot more solid. Chakdephatte
Finally a fifty for Rohit Sharma. Excellent 41 from DK. 190 is way above par, especially against West Indies hacks. rollingstoned and express bowling 1 1 Link to comment

Number
Bit disappointed with Pant and Iyer in T20s. One step forward, 2 steps backwards.. Not trying hard to seal their spots with the opportunities given. Link to comment
Majestic
Iyer is simply not suited to T20s. But time has come to drop Pant from T20s too. There are other options waiting like Kishan and Hooda. Next time around, Rahul and Kohli will be back and it will be harder for these guys to get a chance. Link to comment
Chakdephatte
Good to see us going for runs in powerplay. But we need to rebuilt in middle-overs as well. Pant is weird. Link to comment
express bowling
Why has Pant been tried as an opener for 1 or 2 games and then SKY for 2 games !! If they want a dashing opener ( rightly so ) then why not try the same batter for a few games on the trot ? Edited August 2, 2022 by express bowling Mosher and rollingstoned 2 Link to comment
