He has that patient game in the middle and good experience to bat against the spin in the middle. And with Misbah and Younis not in the ODI team any more, he is allowed in the Pakistani line up to take his time. 

 

If a similar knock is played by an Indian batsmen say KL Rahul, Pandey, Karthik etc, people will be really mad since we seem to have too much talent. However, in Pakistan, their talent is either massive hitters or players who are too slow like Azhar Ali, so Shoaib Malik fits perfect for a team like Pakistan who can hold their innings without any pressure from their management about the strike rate.

 

He is fit though and that helps his game too.

Even Dhoni would look undropable in this crap batting lineup. The opener scored with a sr of 70-80. Only reason rohit is tolerated cause he covers up after 15th over otherwise there is no room for champs like that.

for some reason IPL franchise throw him more than what he deserves .. probably only in the last IPL he did well
