Will VK ever have a fanatical fanbase like SRT, MSD and Dada?

They were all unique but Sachin was darling of nation ( not just cricket fans).

VKs career is at peak and significant cricket following Indian  public dont even care if he plays a game or not. And why should they?

Everyone likes best batsman,mean kohli,sachin has 100 percent fan base nobody against,but batsman like rohit,dada ,dhoni,dravid has (50-75) percent true fan and also (20-30) percent fan don't like them.in this case rohit,dhoni fans look like hardcore fan because they fight against anti ( rohit,dhoni) fans ,but in sachin ,kohli case (0 against) that way we feel kohli don't have hardcore fan.

how on EARTH is a wicketkeeper nowhere close to skill to a batsman ?! I'd say Dhoni is more skilled cricketer than Kohli. Who can only bat and is a decent ball-obstructing fielder. He is not a good catcher (which Sachin was), nevermind an AWESOME catcher that pretty much every wicket-keeper is. Dhoni's keeping against spin is legendary. SRT also offered way more value to the team (with his bowling) than Kohli does. Tendy is a generational batsman who was a very good catcher + offered 5th bowling option for the team, Dhoni is a wicket-keeping allrounder and Kohli is pretty much a batsman. Kohli is behind these two in skills for me.

Cricket, or for that matter other things, are not as important to Indians nowadays as it was in the past.   In the 2010s, Indians have a lot to do with their own lives.  Cricket or even movies have a limited place in their lives.

 

Earlier, a large percentage of the population's dreams depended on the performance of Indian cricket or their favourite cricketers.

 

Not any more.  People realize their dreams with happenings in their own lives now.

 

So, sportspersons or movie stars will not reach the demi-God status of earlier decades.

 

But Kohli is still supremely popular, especially among young Indians.   And this is reflected in the huge number of advertisements he gets ... much more than other Indian sportsmen.  This is a sure-shot test.  Big companies don't invest in personalities if they are not strongly hopeful of good returns.

More to do with lack of options than anything else, really. Kohli is the only cricket player who plays in all 3 formats. Since cricket is the primary sport of India, it automatically makes him the #1 guy in endorsements.

Brand representatives need not be sports personalities.

 

And playing ODIs and T20s is what generates popularity there days.

Brand reps have mostly been sports personalities over the years. in the early 90s, Kapil and Sachin were the two top brand ambassadors. Bollywood stars do get in there sometimes, but its always been a sports personality primary role. Heck even Leander Paes was a brand ambassador before he won anything of note. 


Playing ODIs and T20s may generate popularity, but for companies, its all about visibility first and foremost. The amount of time their brand ambassador spends in public lime-light is the #1 consideration. Which is why 3-format presence of Kohli is decisive.

People have far more to choose from.

No one is untouchable.

Sachin and dhoni were lucky to be from that time.These days one wrong tweet,one wrong video ,one wrong pic ( everyone has a camera in their hands) can dent your image.

 

 Gone are the days when one could say ' I was misquoted'.

Bengal has produced the least cricketing players who have succeeded in international cricket.  Neither the Bengal Ranji team  acheived anything of note. Saurav Ganguy and Shami are only two who have had good success at internationals.  So whenever the rare cricketer comes from there is huge craze in fan following.  Virat on the other hand is a Delhite, the second most Ranji winners after Mumbai. Delhi has produced a lot of successful cricketers as well as compared to Bengal.  So the fan following is distributed amongst more players.  If Bengal had loads of star cricketers then the following would have got distributed as well. With just rare cricketers coming from there they get all the attention.
