Have to put an effort to develop the team rather than recycling from the same group of players:

  • Shaw
  • Gill (is a top order batsman iirc)
  • Pujara
  • Kohli
  • X (can be Gill if a suitable opener is available to partner Shaw)
  • Pant (would have developed by then)
  • Pandya (would have developed by then)
  • Kuldeep (would have developed by then)
  • X
  • X
  • Bumrah

Of the 8 players listed above, Pant, Pandya and Kuldeep are fit and available for selection. Pant is in the 11. India could have taken the initiative to field in Pandya and Kuldeep as well (players for the future)

Rahane is not going anywhere soon. He’s the next Test captain after Kohli-Shastri get sacked after 2019 WC.

Where is Vihari? Looks to be a genuine test player made for the middle order. Jadeja will be around as well, with his fitness can easily play till 35.

A,one the new pacers I hope three out of Khaleel, Siraj, Rajpoot, Avesh, Mavi and Nagarkotti mature by then and become part of the team.

I like the team but Shubman starts below Vihari for me in the battinf order. We want our current plauer Vihari to feel that he is rewarded for his consistency and given chance up the order(provided he is performing consistently like Rahane did earlier in his career overseas)

Eventually Shubman if good enough, will find a way to get middle order slot sooner or later in his career.

Of course yoru bowling needs changes with home tests needing younger bowler than Shami so they can gain experience being part of test side.

simple

1. Agarwal

2. Shaw

3. Pujara ( if he is still in form)

4. Kohli

5. Gill

6. Vihari

7. Pant

8. Kuldeep ( Jadeja for home)

9. Siraj

10. Nagarkoti/Mavi/Rajpoot

11. Bumrah

Reserve Opener= KL Rahul ( if he goes back to domestics and improves his game)

We have to discard Shami and Ishant post 2019 as these are old men which will turn into liabilities. We need young blooded hostile fast bowlers. We cannot introduce them too late.

Shaw and Gill, who are expected to carry the torch of Ind batting in 2020s and onwards, can be a very good opening pair for India
