Changes in the Indian test team after this series to make it even stronger

Openers - Don't stop with Shaw and Mayank. Include 2 backups and rotate the openers in home series so that we have 4 good openers for next overseas season. Maybe Mukund and Rahul??

3,4 - Fixed

5 - Same logic. Try Rahane Gill and other domestic performers.  Have 4 players ready for this position

6 - Stop looking for seam bowling all-rounder. We don't have any now. Maybe try Vijay shanker for some time. No 6 should be a specialist batsman who can bowl a bit of spin. We can get lots of batting all-rounders like these in India.

Seamers - Rotate the current lot. They won't have much work in India anyways

Spinners. Put Ashwin on a diet FFS. Very important for the home season. Ashwin Kaddi Kuldeep Vihari can clean up any side in India

Keeper -  Pant with samson and Dk in mix

Openers:- Shaw,Mayank as first choice.Priyank Panchal as reserve opener.

Time to axe Vijay for good and KL for now at least.

Middle-order batsman:- Pujara,Kohli & Vihari as first choice.Bring in Shubman Gill.

Drop Rohit and play him in LOIs only. Rahane should go back to domestics

to find his mojo. He's a shadow of his previous self.

WK/Batsman:- Pant deserves a longer run.Saha should be the reserve keeper

when he's fit.

Seam bowling all-rounder:- Don't have anyone except Hardik for now.

Spinner:- Ashwin,Jadeja,Kuldeep.

Seamers:- Bumrah,Shami,Ishant,BK + 1 from the barrage of exciting seamers we

have in domestics. My choice is Rajpoot for now.Drop useless Umesh.

Rohit Sharma is not that bad in some kind of pitches. His LOI exploits will always put him in contention for a test spot.

I dont want to see the positive batmen or ones with intent namely Rahul, Murali, Rohit, Ajinkya anywhere near test team.

Those supporting Ajinkya just need to watch last few innings of his. Most of his runs came from ball in the air over point, gully slip region. Please send all these super bats back into limited over

agree with most. we need one more wrist-spinner for the future IMO. Gopal is a candidate.

What we lack for the time being is a strong Nos. 5 and 6, as well as pace all-rounders.

A lot depends on two events - IPL and WC. Say Rahul tops the IPL charts and has a decent WC (highly unlikely) will he be out of Test contention? Ditto with Rohit and even Dhawan. All these failures would be past by then.

Three players at maximum risk would be Vijay (perhaps career over), Rahane and Ashwin. I am tempted to put even Bhuvi in that list, if he cannot get a game in 4 tests in Australia, is he good enough? Ishant will start to fade away as well now that he’s back playing IPL. Umesh may stay around but will gradually get confined to IPL. Parthiv Patel anyways was a bad pick, should have sent another young keeper to Australia.

So the pool could potentially look like

Openers - Shaw, Mayank (and perhaps Rahul)

MO - Pujara, Kohli, Vihari, Rohit (:((), Gill

Keepers - Pant and Bharat/Kishan

Spinners - Jadeja, Kuldeep, Ashwin (only if fit)

Pacers - Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, Rajpoot/Aniket (like to like replacement for Ishant, tall 85 mph bowlers)

shankar is not an all-rounder for long format. he is a sub-ganguly level bowler. averages over 50 with the ball in FC.

I think we should move on. K Bharat should be reserve WK.

Surprising as it sounds the key concern for India in the near future is to have a world class spinner. We had Kumble, Bhajji and Ashwin but I don't see anyone filling their shoes.

None of them were very effective outside home, except for kumble towards late career in patches. at home, jaddu is almost as good as this trio you mentioned - he is fit enough, and just turned 30. can serve indian team for 5-6 yrs if form does not desert him. I also feel we have decent wrist-spinners who are around. kuldeep is one candidate, but gopal needs more Ind A exposure. problem is that he does not bowl enough for karnataka. among youngsters - rahul chahar has amazing talent, and is doing well in domestics. zeeshan ansari may also develop at some later stage.

my biggest concern would be off-spinners. the best off-spinner in the past few yrs in Ranjis is Jalaj Saxena (who also bats well), and Rasool has also done well. but, they are mostly ignored by selectors - have not seen them bowl, but maybe they are domestic giants who are not int'l class. we need to look for young offies to replace ashwin. likes of sundar and gani are nowhere near ashwin's ability.

Bharat's keeping is unproven on spin wkts.. he mostly plays on swinging Vijaywada wkts which has true bounce.

saw him keep in some match where there was a lot of turn. seems like a decent keeper to me, but he is not really saha-level. his batting was promising initially, but has fallen off. seems to be rediscovering some touches as of late.
