All teams have weak 5th bowlers. if your top 4 bowlers are good, you dont need a specialist 5th bowler, especially when you specialist 5th bowler is averaging 36. We don't have four very good bowlers that is the problem.Bhuvi rarely gets wickets , if they don't play Kulcha they don't have any wicket takers in the middle overs. You tell me how is adding Pandya giving more balance. Without him guy like Shami will start from 10th over and he has shown he has ability to take wickets and both spinners can put more pressure in middle overs. He rarely finishes his overs and he needs a caddy to wrap his overs most of the time. All this is being done in anticipation of his so called hitting where last time checked he crossed fifty in 2017.How many times his hitting was needed for this team.Is he good enough to bat more than 20 overs and win a match???
CoverDrive Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Yesterday Pakistan had 7 players who can bowler in the team and their number 10 Hasan Ali was the top scorer. NZ has Santner, Neesham, Bracewell and even Southee can bat well. England are dominant because of the all rounders and even in Tests their batting depth saves them each time. This is one area where we are really deficient. prasen82 1

Pandya has not shown any ability to hit fast bowling which he will face when playing in England. Really go check how he tonked mustafizur in asia cup 2016 when mustafizur was threat 46 minutes ago, putrevus said: You want to carry a player who has hit 50 over 2 years ago and let him stink up bowling. India is better off playing a very good bowler who will take wickets every match and keep other team from scoring. at 7 thats how stats always looks

Pandya is not right fit for this team. Going on and on against Pandya would't help much. A guy who averages 30 with a SR of 115 and can bowl 140 kph is good enough to be in the ODI squad as the 5th bowler and number 7 batsman. I would look at two comparisons 1. How is he doing relative to other all rounders - In last two years, only a handful of players have picked 30 wickets and scored 500 runs in ODIs. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=matches;qualmin2=500;qualmin3=30;qualval2=runs;qualval3=wickets;spanmin1=23+Jan+2017;spanval1=span;template=results;type=allround 2. How is he doing compared to other options we have? (Considering Bumrah, Shami, Kuldeep and Chahal are the 4 frontline bowlers). Bhuvi and Jadeja are the other two options. Jadeja IMO gets ruled out because we can't have another spinner in the 11. So basically he's fighting with Bhuvi for that 5th bowler/7th batsman spot. Whom would you pick? My choice will be Pandya in flatter conditions, Bhuvi comes in only when conditions are favorable to swing.

Right now Indian team is one dimesional.Guys like Pandya/Shankar who need caddies to bowl their overs work well when they are two or three like them are in the team.If they play as solo fifth bowlers trouble starts.Their batting is not called upon that often but their bowling is needed every match. Shami doesn't realise if he even works a bit on his batting he will be permanent in the team. He can hit out but needs a lot more sense and ambition with the bat. Similarly Bhuvi needs to improve and take his batting more seriously
sscomp32 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 WI have made a mince meat of this theory. My point is justified. Play all rounders only if you have genuine ones. If not specialists are better.

Even fielding looks dodgy, too many passengers like rayudu, jadhav, dhawan, rohit, kulcha, shami . Thats thier job. They are in the team to take wickets, if they have to bat that means the batsman are problem not the bowlers who cant bat. Wi just made mince meat of a team with 10 batsman .
R!TTER Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 The 2 best test teams ever didn't have a single all rounder! Though they are useful in LO, so long as they're consistent.
putrevus Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 (edited) if you have good batsmen and good bowlers. You don't need these bits and pieces players. Sam Currran replacing Broad is so silly. Manju is correct. Edited January 24, 2019 by putrevus sscomp32 1
