Unavailability of Bumrah in the first 2 tests and an injured Bhuvi for the whole series ( he is ideal for English conditions) played a big part. Lack of planning against English tailenders, also contributed. And if we had multiple batsmen firing like we had in Australia, that would have made a big difference too. Our team was full of TTFs and they didn't do their homework before announcing the squad. Youngsters would have won against this England team. Pakistan played two tests and won one. we played 5. Had pakistan played 5, they would have lost badly too. Also, conditions were warmer when Pak played but they changed drastically by August.

We were not strongish touring team at all. Our bowling was worse than them. our batting was probably worse or equal to their batting. How we were better than than them. we were not better in any department, not even fielding. Also, no top team playing at home is weak. Even Bangladesh at home is not weak. We did not have Bumrah for first two tests. We did not have BK for all 5 tests. Absence of these two made a huge difference. Bhuvi in place of Shami would have made a huge difference in that series. Also, the scoreline just does not tell how closely fought that series was except Lords test where we made a selection blunder, all other tests were tight an England just grabbed the crucial instances in those games. Playing BK in the last ODI was criminal, knowing he was barely fit. The decision to play 2 spinners at Lords was arrogance at it's very best, so was omitting Jadeja at Rose Bowl, we lead our own dumpster fire truck towards a 4-1 mauling! The series was a lot closer yes, but it's still true that we had a much better chance of winning it than say in 2014, as England were much stronger back then Sachinism, bahubali and Stan AF 1 2

Just at Lords, what about leaving Pujara the first test or Jadeja for Rose Bowl? BK, was recovering, if he wasn't even in contention for tests why was he there in the first place? Three blunders just in basic selection. 1. Test 1, didnt select Chepu 2. Lords, select injured ash 3. Persisted with Ash As @express bowling has posted.
