The problem is we have very few good ex-fast bowlers turned commentators. Zaheer is one but he is overly polite. Srinath never tried commentary. Kapil Dev's hindi commentary has not even a fraction of the incision that his bowling used to have. Chetan Sharma/Madan Lal/Prabhakar and other television show commentators are also poor analysts.

We keep hearing from guys like Manjrekar, Gavaskar, Kartik etc. Manjrekar's commentary sometimes betrays a deep rooted inferiority complex against pakistani fast bowlers from his playing days.

On a serious note check this video be does look sharp.

Chetan was fast-medium.

But his problem was that he was very very short ... and at that height, he needed to be 145 k or more ... which he was not.

Chetan's deliveries always hit the sweet spot of the bat due to his short height and lack of natural bounce.

:cantstop:

Looks like someone has mistakenly put Javagal Srinath's description there.

Srinath was 6'3" and hit 150 kph regularly.

While Chetan was around 5'5" or 5'6" and probably bowled 132 k to 142 k in his best years.

Poor guy bowled so many overs on unresponsive pitches in Ranji that his legs got shorter and shorter :((

When Gavaskar was the captain of India, we had a fast bowler called TA Sekhar.  Many said that he was the quickest bowler in the world.  Whether true or not, he was very quick and bouncy.  But he got to play only 2 tests ...  and 4 ODIs in which he averaged 25.

Then there was Raju Kulkarni, who was sharp too.

If we consider the other seamers we had then  ( apart from Kapil  )   ...  pedestrian Madan Lal,  Chetan Sharma and Roger Binny ... why did these 2 quick bowlers not get to play 10 to 15 tests atleast ,  before they were rejected.

If Mr.Gavaskar, the captain, had a bit of passion about fast bowling, we could have had fast bowlers from the early to mid 1980s itself.

P.s -- Kapil Dev, when captain,  also ignored any other quick pacer who looked promising ... but that does not absolve Gavaskar of the blame when he was the captain.

TA Shekhar was Srinaths mentor and also he was one of the head coach for MRF Pace foundation. I do know that he was pretty sharp, not sure about being worlds fastest. There was Randhir Singh from Bihar in 80's who was very fast. Obviously much faster than Kapil.

Kapil made sure his career didnt last long. Kapil also tried his best to sideline Javagal Srinath from international cricket.

this is a very crucial point.

Gavaskar because of his incompetence and kapil because of his insecurities prevented a fast bowling culture earlier on. This is rectified now with Kohli.

Chetan was not that quick. First genuine quick i saw was Srinath. He was express even on view. He had this natural inswingers that  would cut batsmen into half. Ishant was supposed to take the mantle. But he blew hot and cold right through his career.

Normally warier is between 136 to 145k..

One ball was 148k ...kinda exception ball. But he uses his brains and does not give too many reasons.

I would pick Prasidh ahead of sandeep warrier.

Great work @express bowling. Do you think MSK missed a trick by not going with Prasidh, Saini or other pacemen for the WC.

I would have picked Saini as the 4th pacer in place of the 3rd spinner.

If some pacer is going for runs, we dont have a backup.

Agree completely.

Hope the coaches listened to this. Getting the upper and lower body parallel and getting the knee in a braced position will not only prevent injuries but also help him get couple of more kilometres in pace. He may top 155ks.

Issue is he is too old to make these changes.

actually he has already made a lot of changes in last 1-2 years which helped him bowl this kind of pace, so, he can do.  i dont really care about brace front leg as there are many bowlers who dont have braced front leg, eg. Starc, but the most important thing he needs to work on is his front and back foot landing.
