Because they dared to be publicly supportive of a non-violent movement agitating for civil rights, and participated in a protest march where soldiers shot and murdered unarmed civilians. What is Imran "the honest" doing while this is going on? Nothing. Just yesterday, a Senate no-confidence vote was rigged by the ISI - the vote is "secret ballot" - all the more easier to buy or intimidate votes that way - Imran Khan himself tweeted in 2015 that secret voting in the Pakistani senate is bad. Today his party and him are clinking glasses celebrating since they find themselves on the other side of the "selection". "Naya" Pakistan is same-old Pakistan. slave under the jackboots of the military elite that rule over them. They are the pimps that that rent out their country to whatever foreign power that throws money at them - Uncle Sam?? Yessir, right away sir. Uncle Saud?? Yessir alhumdillah your highness - feel free to hunt endangered species, destroy poor farmers' land in the process - this land is your land. Uncle Cheen? Yessa - pliss be giving me some JF-17 - re-purposed 1970 'jets' with new paint, some bribes to the top jernails, and you can CPEC the Pakistani awaam without lube for the next 20 years. And the pimps have gotten the awaam addicted to that sweet drug of Anti-India hatred. As long as the awaam is high on that drug, they will be oblivious to the fact that the "military" i.e. the mafia thugs that have an anaconda like grip on their country, have been calling the shots for 40+ years now, and things keep getting worse for them. Like a bad soap opera - the thugs will rotate out the useful idiots cast in the role of "leaders". Role of "PM" will now be played by Shaukat Aziz/Geelani/Sharif/Imran. I actually feel bad for Imran - here's a guy who clearly has good intentions for his country and people - and he is being led around by the nose and openly used by the military mafia. His legacy is being ruined as we speak. And what's worse is that in his case - he is simply too popular and seen as too clean to be given the same treatment as a Benazir Bhutto or a Nawaz Sharif. Those guys were easy to target as corrupt etc. This guy is too popular. The only way for the Military Mafia to handle him if he threatens to slip out of control, is to make him a martyr.
