One option was to move KL down the order in place of Iyer & open with Rohit/Kishan. KL right now seems out of touch. Down the order he can ease himself into the match situation without the pressure to open. 
 

Looks like India have decided the openers for the WC are going to be Rohit & KL, nothing wrong with it. But what would one more failure at the top do to his confidence & the team’s confidence in him?

Kishan should have opened irrespective of what others had done. Why was he made to open if he was not looked at as an opener? This is classic Kohli, just absolutely random flip flops.  Don't defend everything that Kohli does.

Rahane as an opener >>> KL as opener in shorter formats. Middle order is debatable. Frankly, KL is much worse than Rahane as far as mental strength goes.

He started with Dhawan as opener, then went to Kishan & now he is no.3. So, what's the interpretation, Dhawan is the back up opener again or Kishan is the back up opener. 

And also remember, Virat didn't show this wisdom when it came to Surya. Iyer still batted at 5 instead of Surya may be because Iyer had scored a 50.
