The nexus TM and his chamcha Virat don't want that because Pant in playing 11 makes Dhoni and his selection look BAD by default. Or to be more precise, after WC 2008 he restructured his batting to be calculative than destructive. Since he was captain he positioned himself into situations where he could maximise his style of batting promoting or demoting himself. Since he had great hand-eye coordination he could maintain the Strike rate high even being calculative since a loose ball was invariably punished.
