Fixing will still go on but to a lesser scale. Moreover tax revenue will be up.

It is like insider trading. You can go to jail for it. Right now they will only get a rap on their knuckles or may be a ban. If gambling is legal and you are caught fixing its way worse. Remember the Pak trio

That idiot retired Judge who is BCCI's Ethics Officer, instead of sending silly conflict of interest notices to our cricketers, should have focussed on strengthening the anti-corruption mechanism fr these leagues. But guess that's a lot of work. Easier to send non-sense notices and have your moments of glory.

And bookies would be corporate companies instead of Munawars and Dawoods.  And Companies are smart enough to recognize that its much easier and safer to make legal profits from gambling than trying to go for extra profits from illegal fixing attempts, unlike gangsters that run betting today.

Legalized gambling only works in out and out capital economies. Not in countries with confused ideals and economy like ours.

 

Let’s take example of another vice.Alcohol is legal in most part of the country. There is an astronomical difference in Cost of Getting an excise license on paper and actually what you have to pay for it in the end.  Governments start taking over it as they see huge money there.

In the end it gives rise to illicit liquor etc.

 

Legalizing gambling may have a short term impact on some amount fixing but still the crime will go on and now giving rise to a whole new problem.

At a minimum, I am in favor of taking a money-spinning business away from gangsters and mafia, and making it a legal business so that it can generate tax revenue.  What is there to be gained from keeping it "illegal"?

Whats stopping the dawoods of the world from registering a legal company in india in some dubious name and placing bets.how would you track the fund inflow in the sports betting account.where will be the controls and where will be the checks..

Where are the "checks" and "controls" on the illegal bookies today?  A legal system doesn't have to be 100% foolproof to be more effective than what we have today.
