Is Shardul indeed a good finisher team India needs?

After that how many times did we chase 300 go n count that also do count how many times does a 6,7 at team help chasing down 300 + succesfully

He also helped chase down 294 in series against aus...where he was mom.

Whatever he is as LOI batsman he miles ahead of jadeja

Amarnath might have not done anything after that but pandya did till his last series 

 

Stop expecting ridiculous things ....

It is not wrong to expect help from so called batting allrounder to score some runs in a tall run chase and help his team win for a change.

300+ cant be chased down by person alone.....specially by no.7 if he has no base given by top batsman

Thats why if he cannot be no6 , I don't want him in the team long term. There should be no room for bits pieces players in the team for next 50 over world cup.

The reason u cant win from 7 most days is coz no partners are left most days not becoz of lack of ability

let me jog ur memory he won a MOS batting at 4 number so he is good enough to get a promotion sadly no one can bat at 7 apart from him

I don't care what he did in 2017, Jadeja won bowler of tournament in 2013 and won India its last ICC cup with his bowling and would won semi final this year if he had some company with bat.

Unless Pandya  can play in his team at no6  , he is cannot be a long term core odi player.I don't want to create a specialist bits and pieces position.

 

He is still a bits and pieces player who is one dimesional hack who is good for cameos here and there.He was needed at this world cup as we had Dhoni.

Ur comparing a 3 yr old career to 10 yr old in terms of achievement.

Jadeja alone didnt win it, neither pandya alone lost the wc.

You keep repeating same thing that he is an allrounder when he has zero fifties since 2017.That one stinking series you keep repeating is over and was long time back.

LOL, one cameo and we are branding Thakur as finisher. Abdul Qadir once brought Pakistan home against the might Windies..this is what tail is supposed to do every once in a while. Srinath and Kumble too won us a close match against Aus (I think). Lets not imagine such a knock makes one a 'finisher'.

 

Even Jadeja is still far from being anointed 'finisher' - his batting has improved in last 1 yr or so, but his coming good with the bat still comes as a surprise in ODIs, even to his team-mates I think - so hes a good batsman to have down the order, but no finisher..as yet.

After playing for 9 years in international cricket jadeja finally remained not out that too against hapless bowling which we eventually won and credit to him...Good that he has shown improvement in past few matches but after fricking 10 years and we don't really play down Pandya to big him up. Even our captain fuddu LL choose a fit Pandya over jadega in loi any day. So hold your horses till jadeja perform against bigger teams.

No sample size is too small. Let him play a few more innings.

For a finisher, he should be able to score 30-40 runs a 150 SR. Seems far away from that.

What is Shardul in for. His batting cameos or his bowling. If he is not good at his main area of expertise, he should be in the sidelines. He maybe a good backup but there are others waiting in line to get their shot. Yesterday Saini brought something that is invaluable in todays game - wicket taking ability. We have to try other pacers rather than stick with Shardul. I don't expect Shardul to finish matches like against Australia or England. He will fail and also give more than 6 runs per over. We already have Chahar and Bhuvi to do what he does. We may have one trundler too many while we have fast bowlers who don;t get a chance

I agree Jadeja sucks as a no.7 batsman in ODIs and in T20s any number. He cannot start hitting at once that's a proven fact and neither he has any extraordinary hitting. However I see merit in him getting regular spot at 6 in ODIs (Currently being wasted for Jadhav). Amongst many failed combo this TM has tried, this is worth trying as well. They are pushing him at 6 in tests in India why not in ODIs. Sandwich him between Pant and Pandya.

Obviously this is all with the aim of getting a extra bowler.

Obviously he has improved and I like it also he is hard working cricketer and has real all-round ability. But concern I was raising when other poster was demeaning Pandya to big up jadeja. Bloddy it took 10 freaking year for jadeja to show something now and good that he is paying off now. But don't bring down Pandya for that, Pandya has real potential he just needs to focus on cricket than other tantrums which he does.

If he can produce innings like this consistently why not, he is better bowler than Pandya and Dubey.He should be in the team as bowling allrounder , he has improved his bowling too.He has already won one odi with his bat.

So TM is not wrong afterall for backing this guy, you cannot have five no 11s in the team either.Bumrah, Saini, Chahal cannot bat and Shami is inconsistent.

People underestimate bowling allrounders in this age of T20s when we need to bat deep and have big hitters down the line and at the same time we need more than 5 comptetent bowlers who can finish 20 overs without conceding many runs.

 

A team can afford only two to maximum three bowlers who are mugs with bat. We need a good hitter in number 8 position to be successful as a good T20 team.

His natural length on Aussie grounds would be useful. He should not bat @7. Once Pandya is back replacing W Sundar, our team will have very good balance.
