They want matches to be competitive and give a fair chance to opponents as well. There was no fun with 80s WI and 2000s Aus team. They used to bulldoze other teams and leave them in inferiority complex. Compared to that ruthless attitude, Kohli's love for mediocrity is purely based on live and let live philosophy. The man and the mentor deserves all the respect for their humility and compassion.
