Kohli has lesser shot range than Samson ? Which shot can Samson play and Kohli cannot.

When kohli came in....also kohli doesnt play 360 deg . Kohli himself will tell u he likes to stick to his limited shots.  I have seen samson scoop malinga for a six. Samson is far more innovative then kohli in terms of shot making

Yes, his start to international career is like KL Rahul's.. remember Rahul had some horror starts in his first few Test innings with four or bust.. TM needs to talk to Samson and calm him down so he doesn't throw his bat at everything but instead times the ball.

no, it's not like KLR at all. in case you forgot, rahul made a 100 in his 3rd test innings (2nd test), made a 100 on debut in ODIs, and made 47* and 100+ score in his 2nd and 4th innings. samson has done nothing of note in the 4 T20s he played.

samson has a lot of time to play his shots and a wide range of shots. but just having the ability is not enough. his shot selection is poor, he seems to have some attitude problems (I recall some fracas with Kerala board and other incidents), and is still called a "promising youngster" despite making ranji debut in 2011 and scoring his first FC 100 in 2012.

Regarding scoop I agree. Kohli will rarely play it as compared to Samson. Not having one shot which is a T20i shot majorly isn't conclusive to say Samson has more shot range than Kohli.

By limited shot it doesnt mean kohli is less of a batsman then any those guys do have more innovative shots then when kohli came in over the years even kohli has developed more range. Kohli has said similar about rohit abdv many times n samson pant have a huge range of shots its just that no one will accept since they aint big names as yet. These guys have shot behind the wkt as well which kohli doesnt play much that gives them a huge area in itself. Kohli shot range increased over a period of time specially in last few years, kohli when he came in never had a shot range of rohit, pant , samson . Even someone like abdv developed a huge range over a period of time. Kohli as batsman alao pref to stick to text book shots unless he is playing t20 mostly.

The only shots Kohli avoids playing but can play are switch hit, scoop over keeper. It's not that he cannot play those. It's the shot selection which separates Kohli from rest. Players like him will rarely play less percentage shots and rightly so.

yes, absence of shots does not mean a batsmen can't play them. in club games and some domestics, bradman scored a lot of 6s. but in tests, he would almost always hit along the ground and play percentage cricket to avoid losing his wkt unnecessarily.

I need to see his batting more as he has failed till now. But was impressed with his game awareness in the outfield and in the run out today.

He paused and gestured Rahul to come forward and threw the ball in the right place for the collection. Many new players would have panicked and aimed at the stumps

Samson is already 25+ and still hasn't secured position in side. Rohit was already opening when he was of that age. Currently with Rahul, Shaw, Gill, Mayank waiting in queue i doubt it's gonna be easy for him.

If any one practice they all can but guys like samson pant have those shots from early age and shot selection n  percentage cricket is something they need to learn likewise kohli over the years need to practice those shots including sweep which also he doesnt play much.

Samson is not a 360 degree batsmen , infact I would argue he has a limited range  , a lot like some of WI bats but gifted with great timing  so on his day he looks as good as anyone  .

AB and from India DK and KL come close as 360 degree players .

Virat is only weak behind the wickets , his technique won’t allow him to scoop / paddle etc but he makes it up with far bigger range than most front of the wicket . Can’t think of many batsmen who manipulate the field as well as he does .

Samson is one guy I hope the TM gives 20-25 games. It is worth it. He has suspect temperament, which he needs to conquer.

He hasn’t improved from the first time I saw him bat . Imo he’s 100% natural talent and zero hard work .

He isnt exactly 360 but not even far away from it. As his percentage behind the stumps is less like even rohit but if needed botj can exploit that area big time . But their shot range even infront of wkts is huge.

More then KL ill say uthappa was but yea now even rahul to

Virat also doesnt sweep a lot . His range now is far better then earlier im talking about when he came in ....now he has a lot more range specially at covers n midwkt area. Virat doesnt need those shots coz those cheeky options are risky as well which once warne pointed out was the diff between kohli n abdv....that abdv in temptation of those cheeky shots looses his wkt many times but kohli sticks to basic which ends having him with great consistency .

Kohli doesn't have any backfoot game. He was also poor against short ball early on.

Kohli doesn't play the cut or the square drive, at least not the way Sachin or Sehwag used to play it. In fact for some reason no one's playing these shots like the way fab 4, Sehwag & Gambhir used to pay just a decade back! The lot of them are too focused on being on the font foot or playing in front of square, especially leg side.

guy has always had timing in spades and picks up length very well but being a talented stroke player at a young age can sometimes be a curse as it can leave you liable to getting out by playing unconventional shots that other less endowed batsmen might not attempt. Definitely worth keeping him around the team imo which might see him improve his temperament as he ages instead of having the likes of Rayudu, DK and Jadhav. I'm surprised at what a gun outfielder he is considering he mostly keeps wickets which is a definite bonus imo.

BS, he hasn't done anything of the sort at least in the last 4 or 5 years. He also has a limited range of shots, as can be seen in his record from IPL. Of all the top players from India he probably has had the lest array of shots, which isn't necessarily a bad thing per se but you're overplaying his shot making ability!
