I know he averages like 55 or something with all those not outs but what else has he achieved (as a player) to be considered our greatest ODI player ? I can't recall one good inning of his under pressure except the WC final knock. I'm not saying he's not good... he is. In fact he's a "great" LOI player and captain but he's no way in the top 5. It is incredible to be keeping wkts for 50 overs + overseeing captaincy for a large part of his career + performing consistently in MO, one of the hardest areas to bat at in ODIs, and at Bevan’s level esp. when it comes to handling pressure, while possessing the flexibility to bat any where in the batting order Brief comments on other players: Kapil Dev: Relatively inconsistent but when he did well you felt good. Though was a good motivator, his captaincy was bland. You could almost know who is going to bowl which overs and bat where. In 1989, Srikant became the captain and we saw innovation relatively speaking like Chetan Sharma being promoted up the order v Eng in Nehru Cup. Chetan hit a 100 to win that game Sachin/Kohli: Great in their specialist field.
