With the success of DC n MI, teams will look for 2 overseas seamer or bowler in starting XI in future IPLs

For MI success template for years have been 2 overseas pacer + bumrah , many here keep saying add batting but they shudnt as they win IPL with 2 overseas pacers only . Previously Mitch Mcgleghan n Mitch johnson with Malinga

Dc this year has followed same and has had great success with Rabada n Nortje now

We might even see KKR do this with lockie n cummins in coming games

Surely u need quality as well for this which frankly there isnt much in world as same KXIP with jordon cottrell havent found same success.

But this is a very good success template ,this would be good for domestic batsman but will also come at the cost of domestic pacer seat in XI

I had made a post in the speedsters IPL 20 thread before. This is the best bowling combo for MI since Malinga-Johnson in 2013.

I haven't followed Dilli closely but if you look at MI they always had that combo for the last 7 or 8 years. Then Bumrah got added in the mix from like 2014(???).  MI didn't do well in the seasons that Malinga didn't play. 2016 and 2018. When they won the title in 2017 it was Malinga-Johnson-Bumrah who bowled spectacularly in the final to defend a paltry 129 and win the cup.

I don't think it is an issue of foreign pacers or Indian pacers.

It is more an issue of the quality of the pacers and the variety of the combo.

If Bumrah and Bhuvi were in the same team, that bowling attack would have done great too.

Bumrah, Saini  or Bumrah, Chahar  or Bhuvi, Shami or Bhuvi, Saini would have been nice combos too. Bumrah and Prasidh or Bhuvi and Prasidh would be nice too.

IPL plays a significant part in developing young Indian quicks ... and that aspect should always be encouraged.

Really heartening to see MI getting immense respect which it deserves, after so many years. I’m sure most of the fans were always at awe and silently admired MI irrespective of their own biases towards other teams. It’s only now everybody is freely acknowledging the MI template for success...

Only MI can do “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaans” and continue to remain as a Top notch team. In fact MI has always been a fine T20 Academy in which many young players graduated and went on to join other struggling teams and helping them out against MI.

I would even suggest MI to hold annual Coaching sessions for Captains & Team managements to fine tune their skills. M$D & Fleming should get training from MI before they retire from IPL...

I, on behalf of all other MI fans, humbly acknowledge all of your  love, affection & best wishes to carry on serving the Indian Cricket...

Yea actually ur right its is about quality

Had one team had 2 top t20 pacer it wud have been diff but that isnt the case so 2 overseas quality ones looks to be aggresive strategy .

Btw, i never liked Mitchell Mcclenaghan in MI. He was a loose cannon more often than not.

TBH, I prefer Malinga + MCClenaghan to the relatively untested and unheard of Boult+Pattison duo. But maybe that is their strength; that they've not been played against before. And the novelty factor works in their favour.

That said, Boult has turned out to be amazing this season. Really good bowler. Pattison seems average, can probably be replaced by Malinga at some point.

You've nailed it Asterix da. Especially the part in bold.

It is the humility of the franchise and our fans that sets us apart from the rest of the pack.

  • We do not find the need to rub it into the faces of the other sides that we've won the IPL 4 times. A feat no one is close to achieving.
  • We do not find the need to remind everyone that we believe in the Kejriwal introduced odd even policy where we seriously try to win the trophy only in odd years. And throw the bones (IPL trophy) at the litter in the even years so they too have something to feel good about.
  • We have generously lent our talent like Shaw, Jaiswal, Rana, Gill, Butler, Bravo to the other teams. All of this for the betterment of the IPL and so that the other sides have some chance. The ingrates that the other fans are, won't even thank us for this.
  • Bumrah is the spirit of :mi:'s humility personified. Look at his gait after he takes a wicket. A job is done. No over the top celebration. No making the opposing team/batsman feel terrible even though they maybe really bad.
  • Magnanimous in victory, stoic in defeat (quite rare, albeit). That's the motto we live by.

Jofra & Wood  -Eng

Cummins, Starc, Meredith, Stanlake , Hazelwood -AUS

Boult , Lockie - NZ

Alzari Joseph , Jayden Seals - WI

Bhumra , Shami, Saini -IND

Some serious stuff  and almost all teams can have 2 guys each .

Positive - for indian batsmen of facing such high class pace attack .

Negative - Young indian pacers - only 1 in each time can play & hence less match exposure , but can learn  from these stars if there is exchange of ideas and trick of the trade .Not sure does it really happen ??

Boult is an established pacer. A veteran of more than 180 international matches. Most international batters have played him a lot. He is a good fast-medium swing bowler with good control and a zippy bouncer.

Pattinson has been around for a long time too but his career has been marred by injuries and he has played test matches mostly and very few LOIs. His ability in limited over matches is largely unknown and he may turn out to be either average or good.

Malinga seems to be past his best. Down on fitness, pace and even accuracy.

We need to find ways to give chances to all the good Indian quicks, both established as well as budding,  in the IPL.

Established ---- Bumrah, Shami, Bhuvi

Budding ---- Saini, Chahar, Prasidh, Nagarkoti, Mavi, Tyagi, Siraj, Deshpande

Pardon my ignorance. I genuinely didn't know about Boult.

I am basing my views only on what I see in the IPL.

Now that I look him up, he is a top notch bowler.

So far would you say that Pattison has been an asset? Nothing wow in his bowling. Of the lot he has been the one who has been hit the most and looked the least likely to take a wicket.

I'd still want to put Malinga in place of him. You bowl only 4 overs in a T20. I think for an athlete of his experience and calibre, that can be achieved. Malinga has those extra dangerous yorkers that surprise batsmen. Won us the IPL the last season.

teams that lack local batting talent cant do it.. teams like srh and rr cant do this because it weakens their batting a lot. only other team that did this is KXIP but they are failing because the overseas pacers are bowling crap.

I found it strange that a top quality fast bowler like Bumrah was not given the new ball for quite a few matches, and Pattinson was preferred.

Pattinson has done nothing in limited over games, so far, to deserve this. And as you said, he has looked rather average too.

There seems to be some extra " love " for Australians in the IPL.

Let's hope that Bumrah gets the new ball from now on.

And it would be really nice if Malinga comes back strong. When in full flow, his bowling is a sight to behold for cricket fans.

Didn't Malinga come out of IPL retirement for one last hurrah last year? Even in last season, he was quite expensive, but he kept taking wickets at important junctures which helped MI to win the cup. I don't think he has anything left in his tank, considering his age and fitness. MI was having him in coaching staff in 2018 I think, not sure if he is involved in any capacity now.

It is about having 2 quick bowlers whether Ind or overseas. Also the selection wrt Indian batsmen have to be good to accommodate 2 overseas bowlers. The bowlers of course have to be in form.

Teams with scope to play 2 quick bowlers

MI: Boult and Pattinson/NCN/McG .... MI used to do that when Malinga was around too

DC: Rabada and Norjke

KKR: Cummins and Ferguson (at the expense of Naraine)

Other teams may be impacted for balance. RR had the opportunity in the absence of Stokes, who would be back now.

CSK could have used Hazlewood and Ngidi more (esp if Ngidi had shown good form)
