Why is Sanju Samson so highly rated?

Yes, i wrote about Samson. I did not discuss name of any other player.

Have seen bowlers bowling short balls to him in attempt to get him caught by fielders standing deep at Backward square leg or deep mid wicket. However, he scores runs of the same pull shot when the boundaries are small or when the bowlers bowl a rank bad short ball. Even in this IPL have seen him get out by bowlers on short ball. Bowlers are targetting him and having decent share of success. Either he is made to reduce his pull or getting out. He does scores runs on short balls but dismisslas on pull shots has often his undoing.

Forgeting every wekaness, ultimately what matters is that the runs need to be on the board. It should not happen that runs are scored only in Sharjah and pathetic scores are seen on other grounds.

I will not want to go through many matches to give evidence for what i have observed regarding bowlers trying to take his wickets as it is too mcuh time consuming. Having said that, i will give few examples from recent IPL.

2.5  taken at mid-on. Oh boy, it's a familiar script for Rajasthan. Short ball, up at the ribs and angled across off stump. He's cramped on the pull, gets in a poor position for it and slices it up for mid-on. It's long been a way to get Sanju out and it works on the night 12/3

4.1  dragged to midwicket! Short of a good length, climbing up at a middle stump line. 135kph. He goes across the line for the front-foot pull, but that gets a bit steep by the end. Off the sticker region of the bat and a gentle catch offered 30/2

Just 2 times both playing attacking shots thats not weaknes

Its when it gets u in awkward position. Every batsman wud have gotten out while pulling n hooking even rohit n ponting.

Unless he gets in awkward position or gets hassled by pace this wont be even counted as weakness n be targetted as.

Lool at iyer how awkward position he gets , he looses his shape infact he is late

Raina got in awkward position n was late most times.

U hve to go through many evidences to make a case. I recently pointed how rana has been constantly getting out in ipl by leggies but still waited this yr but he got out few more times so there is case when it becomes 7-8 times

I dont want to dedicate so much time on forum, on average one Post a day here since I joined a decade back. Neither do I wish to dedicate more time to give more evidences about bowlers getting successful by making him pull or hook. He needs to improve on consistency and not to fall in traps that bowlers are laying out for him. Untill that happens he will not make progress. He is already 26. Cricketers younger than him are ahead in pecking order now. Pant, Shaw, Gill who are all younger than him are making much better progress. It's like a 22 year kid still giving a 10th standard exam and other kids aged 16 years giving same standard exams and even getting better marks. Hope you get the point. The hype has taken him nowhere as compared to his younger age group. Hyping more and not pointing his weakness will end up in decreasing his chances of success even further.

Unpopular opinion:

Because he is a good batsman and is from kerala which is not a cricketing state and he does not look very good in terms of appearance so fits in with 'the really technical sportsmen don't bother about their appearances' mold.  And one can look and sound very sophisticated and visionary if they support someone like sanju samson basically.

Nothing wrong with his looks.

He is a good looking guy.

State doesn't matter in ipl.

People are supporting punjab because of Karnataka players.

Whole of kerala can support him .He also has a strong RR following.

I did not see this coming. 1) Samson already has the nucleus of a groupie building up, and 2) they are rehashing all the talking points we heard for Afretard.

So what if samson plays like the mediocrity he is and scores no run have you seen his timing and the sixes?

This came into my mind immediately after hearing the responses from @zen@SK_IH and @Ankit_sharma03

”He’s a match winner” “He has natural ability” “He can get going from ball 1”

These are the exact same bullshite statements Pakistani fans used to say for Shahid Duckridi :hysterical: :hysterical:

We should be really thankful that the selectors don’t think like this. Hopefully IPL franchise owners start changing their mindset to before giving out contracts to domestic failures!

Nothing wrong with Afridi. In T20s in matches won:

In 56 out of 99 games that Pak won, an avg of 25 w/ a SR of 164 (and when 160s-170s used to be good score) is a good performance

Afridi won them 2009 t20 wc

Afridi was man of tournament 2007 t20 wc.

If samson does this he ll like like hero

Matlab bakwaas bina soche samjhe

Har baat ka ek hi comparsion afridi

Do u even what afridi problem was ?

How on earth can u compare those 2 , completely different player.

Ur one of those fickle minds who want match winner yet u cant handle the risk elemànt.

About ability same was said about rohit yuvi for yrs n yrs . Everyone backs natural in the end its upto a player

Even zak crawly and marnus labuschane are domestic failures.

He is 26, easily will play 10 yrs more are u sure u wanna call him a failure and take the risk for 10 yrs of getting this thread bumped again n again

About selector he has been selected in last few t20 series

for experts Sanju Samson is very good..like i said they can look visionary while praising him and if he fails spectacularly they can look inclusive.. win win no matter what.. probably harsha bunglee loves him.

The only one doing bakwas here is you my friend.

Samson is no match winner. He’s a domestic failure that is being overrated by clueless fans like you.

Samson is nowhere near Rohit and Yuvraj. Those guys actually performed in domestic cricket unlike this guy.

“Sanju Samson is a failure” <- Get this statement tattooed on your body and check it out every morning as a reminder before you get ready for work.

Samson and his Bhakts like you will both be forgotten 10 years from now. You can bump this thread a billion times if you like.

He got selected in the last few T20 series and failed. Simply because he’s not international standards and not even domestic standards for that matter! :hysterical:

Anybody who has watched these 2 bat can easily tell that they are extremely similar. Both batsmen are god-gifted talents that make batting look so easy. Their shot selection looks very much the same as well. On their good days, they will win matches for the team all by themselves!

Rohit Sharma became a world class cricketer only after he became an opener. I feel that Sanju Samson will also follow the same path as well. Sanju just recently scored a double century against Goa in the ongoing Vijay Hazare tournament. This maybe a sign of things to come!

I personally believe that both Sharma & Samson are match winners when they both have the opportunity to bat out full 50 overs. It is very unfair to compare young Sanju to a veteran like Rohit but I definitely believe that he has what it takes to replicate the HIT-MAN in international cricket provided he is played as an opener!

I got it wrong about Samson in the past.

The same way selectors pick players who they think are good but end up failing and then get dropped. Look no further to our captain who still doesn’t know who our best #4 is.

Don’t tell me that all the players you rated highly had successful international careers.
