So why couldn't our heroes do that against zampa and agar

Because of "game situation".  And Indian batting method is for top order batsmen to minimize risk, and "play yourself in" until the 'slog' overs.

Old school cricket.  Which has an upper bound for team totals around 325.

Look how England batted against us in the WC league stage game.  Now it wasn't a gimme -they made sure the game was scheduled at a ground where the boundary was barely a few inches more than the absolute minimum required for ODI cricket.  But its a different batting template and different mindset for team innings building.  It tasks batsmen with the job of maintaining innings momentum at a targeted 'par' runrate, which takes precedence over the individual batsman's need/desire to "get set" etc.  Pre-requisite is unselfishness.

Hearing indian commentators nowadays reminds me of the olden days. Then whenever any Indian pacer bowleed fast and sometimes got hit for runs, all commentators would whine about why they should focus on line and length and not try anything different or try to bowl fast, while other team had fast bowlers dominating and winning matches for them

We have the same mentality today from our commentators, fans and even team staff when it comes to batting. How we need to save wickets, play risk free, take single after a boundary and the typical cliché. While teams like England and New Zealand have batsmen who keep smashing ball and keep winning
