That is not right. Kohli took over the captaincy in 2014 in tests and 2017 in odis. It is not his fault if the batsmen cannot nail down their spot. Kohli emerged in 2008 , Rohit in 2007. What great batsmen have emerged from the system since then.

Which great batsman or talent has been left out. Kohli is last all format player to have emerged in 2008 .

LOL the illogical Kohli PR in full steam.

Kohli became an all format batsman in 2012, 4 years after his debut and after continuous backing by his captain and coach. See how he was backed allowing him to develop as a batsman

ODIs: Given the number 3 spot in a team of stalwarts just after 9-10 ODIs when he was averaging 33-34

Tests: Perth test in 2012 in Aus when Dhoni backed him fully when the easier choice was to drop him for Rohit. He was averaging 21 after 7 tests

T20s: 2012 T20 WC when he was picked despite a very mediocre start to his T20 career (and poor IPL stats) and given a chance to bat at 3. He was averaging 25 till then despite getting to bat at 3-4 from the beginning of his career. Had a pathetic IPL averaging 28 at a low SR before the WC. Team still backed him for the WC

Bowlers have met the same fate too.  The core bowling unit of Bumrah, Shami, Ishant, Bhuvi, Jaddu and Ashwin were already there when Kolhli started off as captain.

Chahal is perhaps the only bowler who has settled down under him.

I think the main issue is that Kohli is not that good at identifying new international quality talent,  and he knows it. Which is why he becomes unsure about a player's ability the moment a newish player starts failing. And he lacks mentoring ability as a leader too.

One player that needs backing to the hilt is Shubman Gill. He has serious potential to be an all condition batsman in tests and ODIs.  And I would try to find one or two new all condition pacers like Bumrah and Shami. ( Special mentoring of Prasidh, Mavi and Tyagi is needed for this pupose ). And we need to find one all format wrist spinner who can turn the ball both ways. Backing these players through thick and thin would achieve a lot.

Which bowlers who have been left out by Kohli  and have gone back dominated in domestic cricket.  He created Kulcha by dropping his main spinners. It is not his fault Kuldeep went offboil.

Destroy young players' confidence and expect them to dominate domestic cricket! The season of awesomeness by Kohli PR continues non-stop.

If same yardstick was applied to Kohli, he would never have been a Test player.

Kuldeep took a fifer in a test in Australia in Jan 2019 ... Shastri promptly declared him our No.1 overseas spinner ... and he has not played a single test match since then, although we played 2 full test series overseas.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.deccanherald.com/amp/sports/cricket/kuldeep-is-our-no-1-overseas-spinner-now-shastri-716772.html

This is how young players' confidence are destroyed.

Promising youngsters have to be actually played when they are in form. We have seen in-form young bowlers picked in the squad  ... but not actually played even against weaker teams. And get chances much later when that form is gone. Like Saini and Siraj. Now, since they have not made it big yet, you can easily say that they are not good enough.

Kohli himself named M.Prasidh as a young pacer he would like to play in Australia because of his extra pace and bounce. But come Australia tour, he is nowhere to be seen. He averages 20 in FC and 23 in List A, so domestic performance is very very good.

Big captains like Kohli always get players they want. If he believes in Prasidh ( to name a young player out of the blue means he is impressed by him )  then why not pick him.

In the last 10 ODIs Kohli avg  37 which is all thanks to a 70 NO against WI bowlers (i dont even want to go to the whole Williams episode) in mumbai. Take that out his avg/runs scored/sr is no different than Iyer who bats below Kohli in a 20over game and was dropped for todays game.

Ofcourse Kohli is by far our best batsman in a decade. No one is questioning his skill or place but we if are going to field a playing XI based on matchups/stats then i am sure there would be a case of dropping him as well.

So, Kohli was still the top overall batsmen, you don't drop your best overall batsmen after one bad series. he already had scored 100s in SA and NZ. The fact is Kohli was awful against WI in 2011 test series and was promptly dropped from England tour in 2011.So I don't know what the hell is Viru talking about.

Pant scored 100s in aus and England on his very first tours there.  Doesnt have a guaranteed slot

Which is why we will only win useless bilateral matches and get our asses handed to us in major cups by better teams. This reminds me so much of Pak fans counting all the kitply wins and ignoring world d cup matches

Not to mention most teams rest their main players in bilateral and save them for big cups. Which is main reason why pakistan was no 1 for so long in t20s where they played so many mathces and other teams rested their main players

If we win any major LOI cup under Kohli ever, be it CT, world t20, world cup, i will eat my hat

Those wins have been vs BD, WI and SL. We did win 5-0 in NZ, but NZ were resting 3-4 of their regulars while we mostly played awful strength. Come the T20 WC< we will get our asses whooped vs the same WI and NZ, who will be at their full strength.

The worst thing is none of these series have been used to give a proper run to 2-3 youngsters allowing them to settle and be ready for the T20 WC.

But Kohli PR mafia hates such facts

bilkul aise hi haath se nikal jayega

Atleast he can still play cnt say the same about Mr. Unfit.

U know, to be the captain the basic criteria is to be fit for selection and not pull a hamstring every other away tour and magically become fit during home series.
