Kohli perennial mediocre fielder, but maintaining impression of one of the best fielder

Can't recall worst catcher in last 25 years. Drops all types of catches. 

 

Yet he doesn't get called out for poor fielder, never mentioned as weak link in field.

 

Lost count of how many times has he hurt team with his fielding.

 

Biggest one was - Lost test match against NZ in 2014. He was single handedly responsible for test series loss.

Forget about being counted as weak link, if commentators and experts have to pick top fielders, they include Kohli also. Serious WTF.

But first everyone has to realize and point out that he is worst fielder.

 

Right now everyone considers him gun fielder.

Probably he thinks being god level in batting means he doesn't have to focus on fielding etc. I've lost count of how many times he had dropped catches while reverse cupping.

Feel very good is overstatement even wrt his ground fielding.

 

He always seem to be missing direct hits.

 

When was the last time, he had an oppotunity and was able to inflict a even easy run out with direct hit? Even average fielders manage to hit stumps sometimes. Kohli never does.

He can take great catches but can also drop the simplest one. 

Also a great ground fielder and has a good arm. 

So not really the worst but not a safe fielder that's for sure.

This. What use is it running fast to pick up balls when batsmen know you are unlikely to hit the stumps.

His Drop catches to Great catches ratio will be like 10:1. Also has a crap arm which never directs ball at stumps.

Any medicore fielder has one or two great catches in their career at international level.

Gets complacent while catching. Never saw him drop this many when he wasn’t captaining. Captaincy in ODIs is definitely getting to him in some way or the other and will take toll on some performance of a player. It is his catching where his standard has dropped. Not that he was Jonty Rhodes before but for someone with great agility whoch he possess as mentioned above by many that he is a good ground fielder, they tend to be good or decent catcher, and Kohli was one too but in the last 3-4 years he has dropped many catches while taking odd good ones.

 

This is clear case of thinking too much on the field as captain while not concentrating on your own catching and not having the same focus which you once had when you were playing as a batsman and not ad a captain.

 

Noticed the same with Daniel Vettori, Nasser Hussain and Graeme Smith all of whom dropped many as captains.

He has a great arm. Watch his throw and then check someone like Sharma or dhawa

There is a reason for this and Kolhi is a prime example ..They are not concentrating , focused and wanting a catch to come to them ! Their mind is thinking about aspects captaincy , a field change, a bowling change .Mark Taylor is a great example of someone who could clear his mind of captaincy thoughts 2 seconds before a bowler bowls and concentrate on being Mark Taylor great slip catcher

Thats good example but won’t call great. Inwill tell you why we can’t compare. There is too much cricket going on now - test, odi, t20 and the biggest being leagues t20(call it biggest since financialy players are involved in this and thats added pressure.) No past captains had to deal with all of that at the same time. Cricket was played far less then. 

 

 

And that is however, shouldn’t be an excuse for Kohli. Due to the reasons shared above, its just not possible to be premier batsman of your team and then lead all three sides. That is why now the captaincy must be shared across. Kohli should just captain in test and test only and let go limited over captaincy.  No need to be superman when you aren’t. Its going to keep on hurting the team otherwise.
