gakgupta Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 (edited) I am getting this vibe.... Hopefully Kohli will give him a complete series... He is a gun player.... Kohli needs to back him for the whole series.....These kind of players needs confidence from captain and management... TOUCH-WOOD Edited December 6, 2020 by gakgupta
Vk1 Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 It depends on Rahane the captain from 2nd test onwards
Serpico Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 (edited) We don't know what the current pecking order is in kohli/shastri's books. Is it Shaw>Rohit>Rahul>Gill? If it is, then there is no way Gill can debut in this series. In fact he would have to wait for another year before rahane is kicked out to make a debut If its Gill>Rahul, then he can play the MCG match if Rohit don't make it aus in time (He should be there by 11th to finish his 2 weeks quarantine and be ready by 26th.. but his nca test itself is on 11th which means by the time he clears it and takes plane, he will be too late for mcg) Edited December 6, 2020 by Serpico
express bowling Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 First he has to be in the playing I hope he gets to play all 4 tests nevada, Mosher and raki05 3

Gill out for a duck.. he should hope to score big in 2nd innings
prudent_kreeda Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 I am skeptical of his success if he plays as opener now . Do not think he is tight around off stump early . If he fails couple of times his confidence will be dented BIGTIME and then its difficult to come back . It is in his best interest to start the test career in middle order , spend good time at the crease and score some good runs . If he scores couple of 50s in 2-3 tests that will boost his confidence and will become the foundation for a long and successful career in Tests & one dayers . Whether he should move up as opener should be a question after he succeeds in the middle order. That's how you nurture a talent to get confidence . If you check records of most of the BIG names of the past , it has taken them 4+ series to start delivering well. Why it would be different in his case ?. My hope & wish is he plays in MO in 2-3 tests in Aus , gets couple of 50s . That will set him on the right path for bigger things . In this day of so much analysis , weaknesses are identified very quickly and exploited to the hilt. Expect him to be tested with rising balls around off stump, balls moving towards slip mixed with bait of rising short balls . He should be ready for that . Also mark this , whoever is playing all the 3 formats , it is very difficult for such players to be very successful Test openers . You only have very few exceptions like a warner. Cannot even get another name ?? Test opening success also depends on how many balls you can leave and cash on loose deliveries . Quote Cricspin and nevada 2
prudent_kreeda Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 But somehow that is not happening across any team let alone India . That is the reality .
wanted_desi Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 He should be playing in Middle order to start, probably at #5. He should be playing all the matches, doesn't matter if he scores or not. Give him entire series, and by end of it he will know where he stands and what he needs to do. otherwise, we will have another manish pandey. Ankit_sharma03 1
gakgupta Posted December 12, 2020 Author Posted December 12, 2020 Started A series with good knocks... Now...its time to replicate in actual matches... Hopefully vihari is made to open and Gill given number 5 or 6
jf1gp_1 Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 In the last 3 months he has done enough to stay in radar but not looked international ready like Natrajan. Almost everyone was sure he will do well with white ball even before he got his first game. Gill has definitly looked far better than Shaw. I do hope he does well in test series.
Adamant Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) After this knock he will obviously open with Mayank in the first two tests. Rohit will join the team after first two tests so not sure what happens after that, but i think Rohit won't get a chance even in the third test(unless gill fails) and that would really be funny considering the fact that he came all the way from india to warm the bench. I'd like to see that as well. Hopefully both Gill & Mayank do well. I don't wanna watch a 34 year oldie to hold the spot of a youngster. Rohit anyways will be a walking wicket in England. In middle order Rahul is certainly better. Adamant 1

Shaw can still fail in middle order with his current form

People like you are an embarrassment to cricket fans. What the * has age got to do with anything especially in test cricket? IF you had said he is bad because of his performance, understandable. But age? Cmon. If you are good u can play till whatever age ur fitness allows. Especially tests. Stop coming out of your IPL circus show. Calling every 30+ as oldies and wanting to replace them is ridiculous and fitting for a keyboard warrior sitting in his mom's basement and nothing else. Gill is a supreme talent and will do well. Don't need moron fans for that to happen. Have some respect for veterans who have given their all to the game. Edited December 12, 2020 by Bhoot

express bowling Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) Gill has batted really well in both innings of the 2nd practice match ... looked very assured in the 3rd ODI too --- Has a lot of time to play quick bowling --- Goes to the line of the ball and plays the ball under his eyes. --- Has a good idea of where his off stump is --- Has left well and defended well ... has defended with soft hands --- Is good both off the front foot and back foot ... drives, pulls, hooks, cuts and flicks well. --- Scores very quickly in FC while playing low risk shots. His only issue has been suddenly getting out after getting set and scoring 40+ or 60+. This could be due to sudden lapses of concentration. Needs to work on this issue. I am strongly in favour of playing him in all 4 tests matches Edited December 12, 2020 by express bowling OpeningBatsman, Mosher and raki05 3

How come he became pathetic to supreme talent within 12 hours. Mosher, express bowling and Serpico 3
Majestic Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 In the pink ball game, the real challenge starts in the evening session. Hence we must score with a positive frame of mind in pink ball tests and look to bat aggressively. We should look to post 225-4 till tea on Day 1 when we bat first. Hence, its important to drop Pujara in the first test and go with an attacking mindset in pink ball test. Mayank Shaw Gill Kohli Rahane Vihari Panty(wkt) Ashwin Umesh Bumrah Shami Pujara should be back in 2nd test but the evening session is basically bread and butter for fast bowlers and if we are at 155-3 till tea, we will still be all-out by 230. Hence, bat aggressively with more intent and look to post 225-4 till tea and rather go all out at 280.
