If the rumours are correct that BJP is settling for 20-25 seats then Congress will watch a notch above that and PMK to tell the public they are number 3 in TN. Its the Gandhis who will be the stumbling block. The local congress unit will be ok. The big problem with the DMK Congress dynamic is that previously Congress provided the DMK with CG posts and DMK compromised with the seats they were given in TN. But this time around there is nothing either of them can offer each other. As per the Hindu DMK gave 18 seats to Congress in round 1. If your a national party 18 seats is simply not enough to even win an RS seat on your own strength even if you have a 80% strike rate you win 14/15 seats. DMK will also not allow you to be part of government and odds are that you cant even get LoP as AIADMK might get more than you. So you have nothing to show. You have not even expanded your base and have now set a new benchmark for any future seat sharing. If DMK sticks to 20-25 seats the Congress is better off stitching the alliance with AMMK and Kamal. This alliance would be strong in the South which is the weaker flank of the DMK. With the AIADMK BJP, the BJP can offer the AIADMK seats in the cabinet. The BJP also need AIADMK as a partner in Puducherry and will be willing to offer a ministry there. So while AIADMK might concede 5-6 seats more in TN, there will be other avenues to compensate. coffee_rules 1
