Kohli became kohli batting at 3 he shud stay at 3 , Gill plays spin much better then anyone in this team so if comes in he comes in at 4. HE can play shot specially when set so he ll have enough time for that at 4

Ideally ill want gill at 3 but that is kohli spot and no way u move ur best batsman

IF u ask me as of now gill wont be in my ODI XI , my no.4 wud be jaddu or pant , if anything team india needs a mix of Right n left in order to make bowlers do more mistake. ENG n MI has used this to great extent

its more to do with concentration then technique with him , he comes relaxed when spinners come n now that doubt has created more of a problem in his head

Pant does not have the maturity and consistency yet to play at 4 where be may need to pace a innings. If at all Gill does not play in 11, and Pant plays then it should be KL at 4 and Pant at 5. Pant should come in at 4 only if the second wicket falls around 35th over where he is not required to take decisions when to hit and when to go cautios. That's not his game yet.

Jaddu might work at 4 though depending on oppostion bowling composition and match situation.

Nonsense, if u dnt know to pace innings u cant get test 100s. HE needs sometime to figure out shot selection...only players blessed with range has this problem like yuvi , rohit also took some 70-80 games

KL is doing well at 5

did u watch pant bat in Semi against NZ, he looked most mature

IF jaddu can bat at 6 in test e can bat at 4 in odi

Mix of Right left is important , neyways he seems in great form utilizie it

Absolutely not. Anytime someone performs Dshawan haters flood ICF withtheir agenda. Dhawan is the tops and no need to replace him.

Getting 100 in test is different where the field setup can act to advantage to a particular style. It's completely different proposition in ODI. Sehwag was superb in Tests but in ODIs he could not produce similar output. I am not saying Pant does not deserve chances and deserves a fair run but expecting 70-80 matches is thoroughly impractical with so much competition around. If I have to give Pant and currently considered players 80 matches , that means I am saying Jaiswal, Padikkal , Garg to wait for 3-4 years before they can get a serious shot.

In that same semi final against NZ Pant got out in a very familiar style inspite of doing all the hard work. He needs to tune his stroke play and demonstrate better decision making to be more consistent to play at 4. Granted that he has age on his side but he will have a series of indifferent knocks with few cameos in between.

Comparing Yuvaraj and Rohit with Pant is also not fair. Yuvaraj was inconsistent but not as impulsive as Pant from day 1. Recall his debut innings against the world champions, it was very steady. Rohit has also been a very different style of ODI player.

why is it impractical ?? he is one of the best talents we have produced and if we can give that much time to yuvi, rohit why not him

Jaiswal has to 1st play 2-3 yrs of domestic, Padikkal has to past India-A test.....garg has a long battle

yea he ll only learn by making mistake, no one has ever learned by sitting on bench

Yuvraj also wasnt equally good in both dept...he was one of the worst players of spin in India that time pant both areas dont have issues

If anything pant game is far more evolved then yuvi at that stage

One thing common between all was the range of shots they were blessed with and it takes experience to tune that . He wont improve by sitting on bench or facing lesser attacks in domestic. |No to forget both improved with promotion in batting order that to given fixed position n backing which pant hasnt gotten

You do realize that all of the best team plan few years ahead of World Cup, by WC 2023 Dhawan will be 38 years old.

So is there a rule to kick people out to prepare for world cup, what happens if Gill stinks and then you lose Dhawan also. That is not how team are built, Gill needs to prove if he good enough to sustain  in international cricket.

30s and 40s won't cut it.Let him cement his spot in test cricket first.

Give Gill time.. He is still young enough to force his way into the team eventually. People are too quick to write off Dhawan... He is still a very good ODI player

He would be 38 when 2023 wc comes along. remove your rose tinted glasses. his hand eye coordination is already slipping. This is the right time to replace him as 2023 is just 2 years away. Don't make the same mistake as they did with Sachin and Dhoni. We need youngsters and this is the time to blood them in not during the world cup. The last world cup was a disaster when it came to team selections.

This is how you kill upcomng talent. Rahul and Pant are already in and out due to seniors who have CEMENTED their place. We need to bring the shovel in and take the cement out.

That is just nonsense, Rahul and Pant are out due to their inabilities. They got all the chances they needed to cement their stops. There is no rule that every youngster has to get chances in all formats but those two got them.Gill has to perform in the format he has been selected and make sure he becomes core test player.

Seniors have cemented their spots by performing well.Nobody is doing any charity for them as long they perform they should keep playing.

No need to give a player like Gill a spot in odi setup when we don't even know he is good enough to sustain in international cricket.

Gambhir was highest scorer in the two World Cup finals that India won. Even with so called ICC tournament specialist Dhawan has 1 - 50 in 6 knock out games that he has played. Thats where it counts for big teams, which are going to make to knock out stage regardless.

Who said India was going to make it knockouts without Dhawan and Rohit performing in group stages. Gambhir had luxury of his team carrying him thru group phases.Same with Dhoni, he was passenger in the side till finals in 2011.

Potential 2023 world cup line up starting 11 which is in India:

S Dhawan

R Sharma

S Gill

V Kohli

KL Rahul

H Pandya

R Jadeja

R Ashwin

B Kumar

M Shami

J Bumrah

The above looks an extremely powerful line up, 6 bowlers, batting upto 9.

Need to reintroduce Ashwin in ODI line up considering that World Cup is in India and the effectiveness of Chahal & Kuldeep has tapered off.

Is grant elliott a better batsman than Rohit Sharma?

Please don't give me these fu**** up logic.

I have seen both of them and dhawan was definitely better.

These are the type of arguments which are driven by a particular agenda.

Next you will say that zaheer >Pollock

Or gambhir>devilliers.

Atleast trust your eyes.

My XI will be

Rohit

Gill

Kohli(c)

Rahul

Pant(wkt)

Pandya

Jadeja

Saini or any other youngster ( too early to call)

Chahal

Natarajan

Bumrah

Gill has hitting problems and hence middle order won't suit him. He plays spin well but often he will come after 30 overs and he is clearly not suited for that role.

Spot on, performing in knockout matches surely adds to legacy of any player. Great player does not become a dud player if he fails in knockout matches.

Gill does not have hitting problems. His shots have both power and timing and he has almost all the shots in the book.

His issue is that he can't slog on demand. A bit like Kohli.

I think he is better during powerplays. After that, he gets a little bogged down with field spread. He plays spin well but at 4, we will be under-utlilizing his potential.

He can't change gear as per the team requirement or the way Pant and Pandya can which is why those two at 5 & 6 will suit best, ofcourse assuming we have the in-form version of those two.

Kohli actually slogged pretty well till couple.kf years back. By slogging I am not saying closing eyes and hitting, that is not his game. But if needed he have taken the strike rate to 150+. Ofcourse he can't go 180-200+ , that is beyond him but around 150 he has done pretty consistently till 18 months back. His regression started with the world cup and he has not got back his mojo yet.
