Sad though he loses out on IpL contracts, I think he can be more destructive than both Smith and Williamson.

Don’t be like few posters here by just number crunching. ABDV has a T20I sr of 134. Don’t go by that. Nzl don’t have the same options as England. I have seen Root play in T20, he has scoops and all the 360 shots. In fact watch his odi knocks, he goes for ball 1 despite him being the glue of his side.

I would pick him over Iyer,Pandey,Head,Miller,Faf and many other middle order players that represent their country in T20

Put a guy like Root or Williamson in WI team and they will win every WT20 tournament. Remember the guy who won WI the WT20 at the end of the day was a classy bat like Samuels and not Gayle,Russell,Pollard. England are lucky because they have guys like Stokes,Butler,Morgan who can play according to situation and still smash it around. Ironically Root will walk into any side in T20 including India and Australia apart from England.

That shows he has the game. But ATM he doesn't have the spot as Malan is the best out there & rest are all hitters. So indeed getting into England's T20 team is super super tough. Williamson = Root in T20 in my view.. On those midget grounds in NZ Root may very well outscore him due to more shots. Sccops, reverse plus everything else.
