Will SDP (Hardik) get to play tests soon?

I am a big fan of Pandya's ability but not his attitude. There are reports that after the LOI leg in Australia where he had a terrific series, team management asked him to stay back for test cricket. He declined the offer and wanted to go back home.

I would keep him in white ball cricket for now as he is not that hungry for test cricket.

Who gave those reports? From what I recall (the opposite of your reports), SDP had asked TM if he can play tests too to help Ind but Kohli said once he starts bowling, he would be considered

"We need him to bowl. That's when he becomes that one guy who brings a lot of balance for us. If you've seen our cricket overseas as well, in South Africa and England, we were able to compete for longer periods through Test matches because of the fact that he brought a lot of balance in terms of his bowling. We've communicated that to him."

yea becoz the scenarios he has played in most players were able to perform once or twice only. Also how many scenarios will u find in a 11 match long career?

you can say his numbers are good enough for an all rounder in overseas matches. but to argue that he is good enough to play as a specialist batsman, you need more than that don't you think? Rahane made a winning century in the Aus tour and averaged 35+ but fans still call him a liability. Pandya averages less than that in his whole career but you want us to believe he is better than Rahane and can play at #5. And he didn't show that ability in FC either, so we just have to consider his 71 against Afghan bowlers playing their first ever test and make him a specialist batsman? I can bet a lot of Indian domestic batsman could have scored more than 71 coming at 6 against Afghanistan. Why not Mayank who has multiple double centuries in india? or Karan Nair who has a 300?

I didnt argue to play him specialist overseas but at home he can

As far avg n all , i dnt see that for a someone new for sometime specially all rounder ...someone shud see where shakib n kallis were till some 20 odd test

When u think about pandya at home its only for one reason to dent opposition spinner which he can do better then any with pant. The idea is to slaughter

And those beliefs were strengthened when the all-rounder, after his match-winning effort on Sunday, said he wouldn’t mind staying back if the team management wants.

However, two days later, he confirmed that he is going back to India.

“I think I should head back home and spend some quality time with my family. I haven’t seen my child for four months, so I’d like to spend some time with family right now,” Pandya said after the third and final T20 International against Australia.
“Maybe in the future. I don’t know, maybe,” he added when asked about his Test comeback

That is because the TM communicated to him about his bowling requirements in tests ... as a team man, he would not say something like “I want to stay but ...” ... it is a diplomatic answer  (he knows he is not in the test squad)

PS the below was made clear by the TM itself:

Hardik Pandya will have to resume bowling before India consider him as a Test option again. This much was made clear when Virat Kohli was asked if the management would be tempted to retain the allrounder for the Test series, after a string of important performances in the limited-overs leg of the tour, where he played as a specialist batsman and ended up Man of the Series in the T20s.

Yea all someone needs to see is if he can bat or so. If those 2 tours are any judge pretty 90 % of the batting needs to go back to domestic . Also how does playing in domestic going to help u play in england and SA. He plays fast bowling better then iyer spin bowling better then rahane so what domestic will help. Thats all u need to see can he bat, domestic just helps in learning u to build innings- he already has a100 in sl so thats also not a problem. Made runs in SA on a tough pitch, made runs for India A on green pitch with pink ball. So what exactly will domestic do ? Yes a player shud play when he has time but there is no time with hardik for domestic. N domestic wnt help his batting much. His batting has evolved at international and will.

FC cricket is not only for technique in different conditions.

What about batting for long?

What about keeping patience and concentration for long period of time? Those are not much needed in shorter formats.

Those come with practice only.

Not net practice, not IPL, not by some magic.

A guy who can make 100 can bat long. He has played FC whenever possible but with playing 3 formats and now injuries its not easy. No one is saying dnt play when u can but for some cricketers its difficult now, u cant just throw them back for no reason. Even in ODI when needed he has shown he can bat long. Ppl judging him on IPL n LOI forget the position at which he bats.

Doesn't mean shortcuts can be taken without any reason.

Same was said about Pant.He has surprised us all..hasn't he ? He played that patient knock in Gabba and only accelerated when the target was in sight.I am sure Pandya has all the qualities to be a succesful Test Batsman. He is no Pujara but he can attack and he doesn't need to be.

Pant has triple century in FC.

I'm not convinced that Hardik has a compact defensive game. He's supreme at attacking, but can he dig in and play defence against quality, like Pant has shown that he can?

There's also the issue of that Dhoni-esque bottom-hand of his.
