And there was clear evidence the ball was bat-pad. 

Of course, it was almost certainly pad-bat-pad, but the first pad hit was caught between frames and so as far as the TV umpire is considered did not exist. 
Giving it not out was the right decision, irrespective of the benefit of doubt.

There was no conclusive evidence that it is pad first , I saw all the replays. In that case it is always batsman who gets that benefit of doubt.

So did I. There was mid off replay that clearly showed the ball missing the bat.
