What about Aus 2013 or Eng series?

And how can you say Kumble has played on turners more? Any evidence? I recall that SL series had some 900 runs made by SL on an absolute patta.

they werent that bad check scorecards .

that 900 was in SL why wud they give rank turner. Didnt kumble play in that 2004 mumbai game against aus one of the worst pitches

That is just 1. Ashwin played on 5-6 in last 5-6 years only. Kumble played over 100 tests and still only 3-4 turners while for Ashwin, it is already 6-7.

Many of kumble wkts were on kotla quite horrible pitch and anyways rank turner doesnt matter as they suit jaddu n Axar more then Ashwin. Therre wud be few in 90s, u can uinderstand its almost 25 yrs to that eras so hard to recall each match

This rank turner logic works when a person only takes wkts on such pitches, the guy has gone n made a fool of guys like sanga n smith in their own backyard

Ashwin is playing in era where test cricket is declined drastically especially good player of spin. SL is no longer SL that had many quality batsman who can play spin. We don't play Pakistan. Australia is going west indies way can't even win at home. Quota has killed cricket in SA. Only England and NZ are teams that have maintained consistency or improved. But still they don't have any batsmen which are considered good against spin.

Every team is as strong as ever in home Condtions. This is by far the best and toughest era.

Drs has changed the way players play vs spin.

SL had prime Herath and co not too long ago. Still for wrecked by India.

Sri Lanka looked good vs India back then because India had a weaker bowling unit.

Same for Pakistan who got beat by India anyway in post 2000 era.

I agree quota has killed a.africa recently but they are still a powerful side in their home Conditions.

Even when they had abd they used to lose to Australia and England at home. That too with prime Graeme Smith.

Australia when they toured s.africa din't even have Cummins back in 2008-2012.

Sanga was in peak form at the time of retirement.

Imagine if you were in Sanga's place. I am sure that since you have already declared that you will retire after this series, you could care less of any tough challenge come to you. Having said that, Ashwin is an elite test bowler and facing him at its peak will always be an elite challenge but at the verge of retirement and already announced that, I doubt players would care to sort any issue anymore.

Sanga cared enough even at the County championship after retirement. I'm not sure if he would have cared any less playing for his country.

The atmosphere and hype around your final series is different and you don't have pressure of performing at the same level as it is at your peak.

If anything, it can be argued that players play better once that pressure is relieved. Cook, and hell, even Sachin come to my mind. Sanga of course. He was a beast and retired when he was batting as well as he'd ever batted.

Ashwin hands down.  The greatest spinner from India followed by Kumble and Jadeja. Can't really comment on Venkat, Bedi, Prasanna and Chandra as I've not seen them or their videos. But my father rates Prasanna as the best spinner he's followed.

there are only so may teams that can be good,it's like saying donald ,mcgrath werent such good bowlers as most of their oppositions were ordinary players of pace bowling, back in the 90s sa,aus and pak were the better sides now it's ind eng and nz.

Remember 2000 Zimbabwe tour of india. Anil kumble was not in team India won 1-0 but with extreme difficulty. Andy flower along with some support destroyed Sunil Joshi , Murali Karthik and Sarandeep Singh. And that was Zimbabwe a weak team even at that time. Now you can't even see stronger team playing that type of cricket in India. Remove Ashwin from 1-2 tours in India. I don't think india will miss him as his replacements will do same as he is doing.

You people are forgetting we are in era of T20 leagues. Players of many nation now don't have any motive to play test cricket and earn pennies.

Entire 1990s tests were horrible tracks especially middle of the 90s. Pitches were absolutely dreadful designed for Kumble's fastish leg breaks which rarely turned.
