If Ravi ashwin isnt selected for Next t20 Wc, it ll be a blunder

The kind of form Ashwin is in he shud walk into our t20 team,he bowled superbly last IPL and has every thing that makes a t20 bowler.

Ashwin also becomes important for one more reason , his bowling against left handers

Eng- malan, Morgan, Stokes, Curran, moeen ali

WI- Gayel, Lewis, Narine, hetymer, pooran

NZ- Conway

Aus- Warner, Wade, Carrey, Agar

England and WI will be big threats to us in WC so Ashwin becomes mighty more important. I hope selectors dont make this blunder

in the early days, ashwin's T20 bowling affected his test bowling at times, but I think he has matured enough to be able to shift between formats. however, his fitness is fragile, and I'd rather see him play as many tests as possible. sundar is an effective replacement for ashwin the bowler in T20s (not in tests).

Ashwin can retire now if he wants to in tests. He has done more than enough. He is bonafide ATg. Anyone that says otherwise deserves a slap.

He won't retire thankfully. He is in beastly form. Just imagine if he got slightly fitter jeeee.

Lets see how he performs in IPL, just feel post his moeen ali bashing breakdown he is a different bowler.

Sundar bowling is nowhere close to ashwin in any format

of course it's not. but it's the overall package that matters more in T20s. In T20s, one can get away with bowling 4 overs for 30, whereas in tests taking 20 wkts is more important. team india should prioritize Ashwin for Tests and then decide on a case-by-case basis for LOIs; for instance, he could be considered for marquee tourneys such as T20 WC and 50 over WC.

Ashwin did well in last IPL in UAE but we know how the pitches were. In the WC in Ind, pitches would be flat so need to see how he is bowling on those

UAE pitches werent spin conducive they had more for fast bowlers.

His left hand dominance don't extend to T20s, he is pretty much same against L/R in that format but he does own Gayle in IPL

15 matches, 13 wickets@30, ER of 7.7..how exactly are these great numbers?

Among Indian spinners, Chahal, Varun and Rahul Chahar all outbowled him.

Sundar's figures were 15 matches, 8 wickets@37, ER of 6, that too bowling mostly in the powerplays.

If we have to have a defensive bowler, Sundar is a better option.

The pitches got slower as tournament progressed ... Indian spinners (and slow medium bowlers) did well (then there are likes of Rashid Khan too)

I also think Ashwin should make it to WC.  Let's hope he repeats what he did in Ipl last year this year as well.  Only thing that goes against him is his fitness & fielding..  But I'll take him over Chahal

@velu favorite Chahal will be our frontline spinner.

Why not? In each IPL Chahal outbowled Ashwin by some distance. If IPL is the benchmark for selection, Chahal, Varun, Chahar, even Sundar are all ahead of Ashwin

Let's see how he does in IPL. Not a bad idea to keep him in the squad and use him sparingly against certain teams. If he is near his best wonderful, I can't imagine someone like Chahal doing what Ashwin did in 2014 WT20, matter of ceiling.

But OTOH I am more worried about his fitness, post the hernia episode he seems to break down suddenly all the time. Want to extract the best out of him in test cricket.

Varun C is my #1 pick, unleash the mystery bowler this edition, he is our trump card, X factor whatever terminology is in use these days. A wristy like Rahul Chahar/Chahal (Chahal is a much better T20 bowler, his weak format is ODI) and Sundar who can do the Ashwin role in PP maybe 85-90%. But I think we can get so much more out of Sundar batting him as opener, can be an MVP A/R, pity that won't happen under this TM.

With Chahal and Jadeja as sure starters, I don't see a spot for a third spinner. So, Ashwin will likely miss out.

If anything,  they might use Varun C as the surprise package in some games.
