Among Indian spinners, Chahal, Varun and Rahul Chahar all outbowled him.

 

Sundar's figures were 15 matches, 8 wickets@37, ER of 6, that too bowling mostly in the powerplays.

 

If we have to have a defensive bowler, Sundar is a better option.

 

 

 

All dont bowl off spin and Varun .C is mystery not a geniune offie....if u wanna throw these teams off their plan u need an offie

Varun C is my #1 pick, unleash the mystery bowler this edition, he is our trump card, X factor whatever terminology is in use these days. A wristy like Rahul Chahar/Chahal (Chahal is a much better T20 bowler, his weak format is ODI) and Sundar who can do the Ashwin role in PP maybe 85-90%. But I think we can get so much more out of Sundar batting him as opener, can be an MVP A/R, pity that won't happen under this TM. 

 

Varun.C wud generally work when opposition is chasing a big total like we saw in IPL and with mystery spinners it can finish very soon. Ill be intersted in seeing how his 2nd season goes coz now teams will come with a plan against him. What ashwin brings no one does in this setup and its about having different skills in a squad.

Last IPL the way he setup n bamboozled pooran a bloody good t20 player many cant do, and all these leggies are easy for left handers. Leggies are must but a squad shud have variety for when needed.

In that final our batsman also failed , why arent they held responsible ?

By ur logic sachin shudnt have played 2011wc for his 2007 wc failure. 

Go check mahela n inzy 2003 wc numbers must be avg 3-5

Yup he is making same point, t20 is a lot about matchups which is what even good franchises do. Jayant yadav selection in IPL final was the key since DC had quite a few lefties n MI's weakness was lefties due to lack of offie in middle overs

He can offer control in Powerplay.   Stay economical in middle overs which Chahal isn't able to do.  Ashwin can win us the WT20 coz he brings so much variety & experience.

liable on field.. not a fan of his T20 batting.. this ipl he has to prove himself in big games for any chance..

Chahal is also poor on field (not on Ash level though)  absolute mug with the bat.

ashwin has been a bit overdefensive on LOIs, whereas with chahal it's the other problem. agree that ashwin is obviously a better bat than chahal.

Ashwin has become a very clever bowler nowadays.  However, if he is included in the T20, we will face following problems.    1) His running between wickets is similar to Inzimam. And even worse at times.    So, all the twos and threes will be converted to only ones. Match will be lost there itself.  2) He is a liability on the field.    Probably the worst fielder in the team. (next to Shaw).  Fielding matters a lot in T20 (unlike test cricket).

The IPL stats are to show how 'superbly' Ashwin bowled in last IPL (your first post). Was not even among the top 5 spinners in the tournament. 

 

Sundar may not be half as skilled but he is the top ranked Indian bowler in T20I cricket, must have done something right to be there (even though I don't like him being used as a purely defensive option).

 

Ashwin will have some chance of a comeback only if we are going to play on spinning tracks like in 2014 and 2016 T20 WCs.

At times looking to deep into stats is of no use

 

Ashwin did well last ipl - I need an offie to counter those lefties- Skill wise Ashwin can do that job better then Sundar- Classic example is avl last ipl when he setup pooran

 

The whole idea i said in regds to even Axar was u need to see opposition n find someone who can exploit them better, ashwin is the guy whom u want to counter those lefties. IPL stats arent much help coz every player does diff role for his team. If going by to much IPL stats dhawan wud replace rahul on last season.
