Probable line ups per cricinfo:

India (possible): 1 Rohit Sharma, 2 KL Rahul, 3 Virat Kohli (capt), 4 Shreyas Iyer, 5 Rishabh Pant (wk), 6 Hardik Pandya, 7 Axar Patel/Washington Sundar, 8 Shardul Thakur, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Yuzvendra Chahal, 11 Navdeep Saini.

England (possible): 1 Jason Roy, 2 Jos Buttler (wk), 3 Dawid Malan, 4 Jonny Bairstow, 5 Ben Stokes, 6 Eoin Morgan (capt), 7 Moeen Ali, 8 Sam Curran, 9 Chris Jordan, 10 Jofra Archer/Mark Wood, 11 Adil Rashid.

Ind would need relatively strong batting till #8 ... In the last 3 slots, it can play its best bowlers per conditions

Don't see the point of Iyer and Chahal

Seam bowling is category A trundler level - line em up and smash out of the ground

TM won't do something as radical as opening with Pant although I agree with your thought process

I agree.

The frustrating thing is that you get players like Pant who are caught on the boundary but try to hit every ball for 6.  Opening is the perfect position for him, less catchers.

Then you have frustrating players like Dhawan, Kohli and even Hitman, they all initially go tuk tuk.

India's failures in white ball is actually due to the top 3, not accelerating harder in the first fielding restrictions.

There are rumours going around that SKY has confirmed his debut on Instagram.

Lol at cricinfo they always picks worst possible XIs & are often wrong

SKY needs to play ahead of Iyer. This is purely based on their performance in recent times. Iyer can hit spin well but he often gets constipated which nullifies his ability to hit. We already have such players like Rohit and Kohli and who knows even Dhawan might actually play as opposed to cric info report.

Ideal 11

KL

Rohit/Kishan

Kohli

Pant

Sky

Pandya

Sundar

Axar

Thakur

Chahar

Saini

The only good reason why Rohit needs to play is because Kohli is also playing and needs some helping hand during captaincy. If it's upto me , I won't even play Kohli and slot in Kishan at number 3 but that's a  wishlist.

If there is a healthy opening partnership, don't send Kohli at all, straight way go to one of Pant, Sky, Pandya

I am so eager to see Kishan but atm I'll be happy even if they pick SKY at no 4. Kishan will likely come after 2 games..  With either Rohit or lolli rested

IMO, T20 batting till 7 or 8 is enough. 20 overs does not require 11 batsmen.

Exactly !

Batting till 8 is enough for T20s.

Moreover, the 4 specialist bowlers must be chosen based on their bowling in all 3 formats.

No.7 is the last spot for choosing a player for his batting.

Having top bowlers like Jadeja, who can bat really well too, is the answer to balancing teams.  Ashwin plays the same role in tests. Hopefully, Axar can grow into this role too. And this allows a bowling all-rounder at 8 and still have 4 good bowlers.

Ironically the best thing for Indian cricket that Kohli could do is to give up his place in the side to one of the kids coming through to get the experience before the WC.

One of the reasons India failed to make the Final and win the WC, is because Hitman, Dhawan and Kohli dominated in Indian conditions and no one got the experience if they had failed. Come the WC, there is batting collapse in a semi and India lose.

Well good night brothers, its late in Australia and its time to go to bed.

My usual practice for T20I in India is to get up in the morning and watch it "Live".

I have a positive feeling about this series, we do have a very strong batting lineup. Anything under 200 when chasing is always doable with our lineup.

In fact I would say its the strongest batting lineup I felt India have ever had. Not based on anything but serious potential to deliver.

It only took them a decade and a half to realize this though, the last time a t20 world cup rolled in they were playing Rahane, still have similar SR players like Iyer and Dhawan in the squad, lets see how many chances the explosive newcomers get

Err where are the explosive new comers again, as expected for all the talk of carefree batting we stick to Dhawan and Iyer
