ravishingravi Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 The only thing that’s very clear from this situation is constitutional responsibility means nothing in India. Health is a state subject. But except one of two states, every one of them looks unprepared to manage the crisis and are happily willing to abdicate the responsibility. All this will do is cause greater centralisation. Our best bet is social distancing to control the rate of spread of virus and rapid rate of vaccinations, both which may drastically reduce the workload of hospitals. mishra 1

Dery Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 Isn't it centre responsibility to give oxygen cylinders to states in an national emergency. States should be responsible to distribute oxygen in their boundaries.
ravishingravi Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 (edited) https://www.livemint.com/opinion/columns/the-confusion-we-suffer-over-the-question-of-mortality-11618756614913.html A brilliant piece again by Manu Joseph. « India has no objections to your death, as long as it is unexpected. You are allowed to fall off trains, be buried in the debris of a building that is designed to fall, be bitten by rabid stray dogs, be burnt in an overcrowded illegal factory in the heart of the national capital. But India does not want you to die of covid. This is in line with a sentiment of Indian life—if you are dying, the country will not let you die. We will create hospital beds at great cost, organize pipes to shove down your throat, and procure oxygen tanks from petrochemical factories. We will even mass-produce vaccines at low cost in record time, or at least say we will do so.« Edited April 24, 2021 by ravishingravi Clarke, Mariyam and mishra 3

Health is in the ambit of responsibilities of the State Govts. The Centre has promulgated some temporary laws banning the supply of oxygen for industrial purposes ( except essential ones) so that this excess Oxygen can be provided to the worst hit States. mishra and coffee_rules 2

China is offering help let's see what GOI does about it I held this view from very beginning. India should not make enemies of China. In its own perverted way, China is more reliable. America on other hand. Let’s just say I never held it high esteem. But with each passing day, my views on this country get more and more antagonistic. As much as I admire some Americans. Lone Wolf 1

But that doesn't mean we can't have decent relations with both. For years we have walked the tight rope with US & Russia. Same can be done with China. China & India on good terms alone can give sleepless nights to entire West. That's why being members of organizations like SCO is vital as a bargaining chip against West. Trust issues will always be there though such is the nature of Indo China ties.

I would have said that under Trump. Under Biden, we have seen enough signs on how they want to corner india. I agree India should remained non alligned. But don’t antagonise China. I don’t think much of it. But it’s easier to deal with Chin be it rare earth or raw materials. American establishment in US right now is not pro India. They are not even friends let alone allies. PM is right. We have to be self reliant. Edited April 24, 2021 by ravishingravi
