My uncle and aunt in India (65 and 59 y.o) - fully vaccinated - attended 2 weddings, farewell functions for colleagues, 1-week beach trip with family etc etc. before 2-week period. Both caught Covid probably at one of the weddings - luckily recovered quickly and fully.  Their son - age 39, unvaccinated - was on the same schedule with them.  Hospitalized.

Anecdotal.  Take it FWIW.

They have a hectic social calendar!

My mother in law with a very fragile immune system contracted Covid but recovered after a couple of days at hospital .She had taken one shot.

I mean there are one off cases but as a percentage it won’t be major factor.

All got J&J.  Heavy testing environment.  All players probably get tested every other day, so more likely to show up.  Luckily all mild or asymptomatic.

The worry is that they might spread it to others who may be unvaccinated and if it is one of the VOCs, it could start another spread in NYC.  Immediate contact tracing and local ad hoc mask rules should be implemented.

Now, if most people are vaccinated and keep viral loads low in their bodies, transmission goes down exponentially.

EU turning away from AstraZeneca.Whats the reason?

EU is vaccine skeptic period. Plus thrombosis has spooked add to the fact that Astra did not deliver vaccines on time.

Hopefully this stock can be directed to India.

Collective nouns involving groups of people are generally feminine in Hindi/Urdu. Unless they involve a *specific* vocation. Even a generic 'team' is feminine.

As a mumbaikar with horribly disjointed Hindi, my best bet with northies is, stree ling unless you are in serious doubt. Replace Mai with hum and Tu with aap. It helps to window dress a bit. But after a few drink, hard to keep track.

Still odd. Norway had 23 deaths of 75+ yr olds who took the Pfizer shot. Yet the EU as a whole didn't clamour for stopping or for further investigation into the vaccine.

AZ SII Oxford have been guilty of *only* not living upto promised timelines in comparison.

Well I don’t know much about US. But having spent some time in EU, I can say ignorance is bliss.
They have a very scarred history with vaccination. And ofcourse they get more data.
In India, even after 17 cr doses we rarely hear of side effects.

My child's opinion:  "I am still wearing mine.  What if people lie that they are vaccinated?!"  I said, don't worry beta, Jimmy Uncle ( @Jimmy Cliff ) is starting a vaccine passport campaign :-).

Naive q: will vaccinations protect 100% from hospitalization and death, even if we fall off the efficacy bucket and contract the disease?

Until it does. It is best to wear mask and practice social distancing, to protect yourself

two shots of oxford AstraZeneca will offer 100% protection against hospitalisation.

It will not stop you from being infected. But it would be like any common cold/viral infection.

You seem to be convinced of that theory, people with no comorbidities have died. Some kind of immune problems also have caused deaths. A lot of diabetics have recovered. It all depends how lungs are infected and how other organs are healthier and can operate under lower lung capacity

we are talking about populations. India is a billion + country with a high degree of genetic deviation with some degree of outliers expected. Those who had no comorbidities, in many cases especially with diabetes are undetected undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.

Keep in mind being diabetic and getting covid is not a death sentence. Even in the worst case scenario around 95% of people who get covid recover.

My uncle who is 55 got covid and recovered. From a test he discovered he has high bp. Supposedly is a slim looking man.  Many of the youth who have succumbed to covid, we dont know how long ago they did a full medical test. Naturally with the medical sector under duress I dont think health professionals have the time to check for these comorbidities unless the patient explicitly tells them.
