Obviously for politicians who will visit her house for photo op sessions.

I hate state of politics in this country.

India or North Korea?

First cut funding for sports/Olympics, then do nothing for 4 years before pretending to be concerned about athletes 1 month before Olympics, then use the success of athletes for publicity/politics.

India can also pump some money into track and field events... probably require the lowest investments in terms of infrastructure and equipment

track and field in india has traditionally been dominated by athletes from Kerala. Don't know to what extent it has changed now.

Wrestling is the best sport ever. Toughest sport.

Even a small wrestler under 70 kilos can ragdoll a 100 kilo non wrestler athlete .

No wonder wrestlers are dominating the MMA scene, greatest martial art.

They can take down heavier wrestlers as well ,I once saw a young sushil kumar take down a 120k Pakistani  wrestler in an open dangal.

Now think of Javeline. We go ga ga over Rohit Sharma using a Lever( Bat) to pummel an object ( ball) which is reaching him at high speed ( newtons third law) with an opposite reaction and reaching 80 metres or 85 metres and Ian Bishop gasps and says Thats a Monster hit from Rohit Sharmaaa..Whereas these javeline throwers hurl an object much heavier than a ball 85 m 90 m with just their bare hands and shoulders..

Badminton and hockey already have required infrastructure. Its only about coaches and harnessing right talents.

The federation also can't do much about Tennis. The tennis pro will play in Olympics if they are good in ATP circuits.

Apart from above, here are the sports we should focus on completely.

Top Priority ( Maximum funding, Maximum athletes )

Weightlifting
Wrestling
Shooting
Archery ( with new talent and Korean coaches if possible)

Medium Priority  ( Maximum funding for top athletes only)
Boxing

Athletics

Fencing ( why not invest in this new sport? Looks exciting and Indians should have penchant for talwarbaaji)

Gymnastic ( There are plethora of medals here, why can't we develop 2-3 brilliant gymnasts with RIGHT TRAINING)

Handball ( Why it is not promoted since its basically a team sports like Hockey)

Judo, Karate and TaeKwando ( Buckets of medals here)

Low Priority

Table Tennis ( Apart from individual brilliance, don't think we can build this sport)

Volleyball, Basketball

Swimming ( All aquatic events- Tons of medals but Indians generally avoid water sports )

Rowing, Canoe, Sailing ( the best bet is choose one sports and put all funding there)
Cycling ( we don't have cycling culture to purse this sport)

Equisteren ( niche event)

Disagree on Volleyball.  Lot of young folks in schools & Colleges play that sport especially in North India.  Lack of investment & marketing is the biggest hurdle not Talent.  Pro Volleyball league has also started.  Needs proper marketing like the Kabaddi league.  Our U23 team reached Asian finals beating higher ranked teams.  So there is definite hope

I thought I heard someone in commentary mention that Ravi Kumar's next opponent( some Kazakh) is injured? Is it true?

Both Ravi and Deepak decimated their opponents. Great fun to watch

Ravi Dahiya has best chance , the Kazak guy is injured

That injury is nothing, wrestlers are the toughest SOBs on this planet, fight at high intensity with much worse injuries.

Spencer Lee won the NCAA title with torn ACLs....he will dominate Paris 2024.

Many more examples (videos, reports) of wrestlers continuing with broken elbows/fingers, ankles etc. They are trained to be like that.

Did some research on Deepak's American opponent. Not going to be easy, Penn State alumnus (toughest wrestling program in USA), former world champ, maybe his ranking is misleading because of less activity in last 1 year.

Javelin throw technique is so similar to fast bowling ,tent peg ,front foot brace ,delay  arm .

Assume there is nothing of "hip dominant"lock and load up sorts, everything seems to be pure side on and knee dominant, more flexion, more reactioney power, arm rotation is not an issue here, thats why Bedi called most offies javelin throwers

Sanayev got injured above his right eye during his bout with the Japanese boxer and there were 3-4 stoppages due to the wound continuing to bleed. Despite that injury and despite being behind on points, he powered through in the final minute to win the bout.

Hope he has some weakness due to that injury and it helps Dahiya! Exciting day!

Agreed.also Dahiya himself looks in smashing form winning with big margins
