North Korea withdrew. They had a champion lifter in her category. Chanu might have won a bronze though.

How she completed her 10m qualification event is proof that the 19-year-old has a lot of fight in her to overcome Sunday's setback.

Despite losing almost 22 minutes, Bhaker was in the fray to qualify for the final round had she shot an inner 10 on her final attempt. However, the pressure piled on her and she registered scores of 9, 9, and 8 in three out of the last four shots.

On Tuesday, Manu Bhaker will be in action in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed team event with Saurabh Chaudhary. Since 2019, the duo has won 5 gold medals and a silver in the ISSF World Cups.

Fencing has tremendous potential in India.  I have seen young kids participating in Int'l tournaments frequently in recent years..   Still Needs Govt.  Support & awareness.  In coming years we should look continue the momentum.

Dude, exactly who was hoping for a medal from him? Amit Panghal, Mary Kom, and Vikas Krishan were our three brightest chances. With Amit the strongest hope and other two with borderline chances if draws were favorable.

 

Wait, are you confusing Ashish with Vikas? Vikas lost on day 1. Perhaps not, I'm fairly sure you would not even know who Vikas is, what weight category he competes in.

This could have been a draw against Germany. Missing open and worse penalty strokes :(

 

In Men's hockey, even though we go trashed against Ozs New Zeleand beating Spain was a good result.

 

I think a win and a draw against Arg and Spain should be enough for semis berth, offcourse Japan seems much improved but its a given that we cant drop points against them .

Indian media reporting that Chinese Weightlifter Hou Zhihui, who won the Gold in 49 KG Women's Weightlifting event is likely to undergo an anti-doping test and has been asked to stay back at Tokyo.

 

Nothing on official Olympic channels yet though. 

 

If she fails doping test, a big IF, Chanu's Silver will be upgraded to a Gold.

Nobody rated him as a medal prospect. Among boxers only Panghal and Mary Kom are prospects realistically speaking (Vikas Krishnan was carrying a serious injury), latter's chances quite slim because of her advanced age. Pity we didn't have women's boxing during Mary Kom's peak years, 2004/2008 mein guarantee gold tha.

The one event which is absolutely self skill driven is weight lifting. Its not elimination or qualification based. Everyone gets the chance to lift and the highest lifter wins. Pretty simple. You are not pitted against anyone ( so in archery you may lose 59 - 60 but another team might win 55-50. So even if you did much better than the team who scored 55, because of your bad luck You were pitted against the best team who scored 60. Repechage rounds in wrestling minimises these chances). So in that sense it is one event which India should focus on much more. As its an individual skill against pressure of being pitted against an opponent. So the pressure is more self driven than external. Not sure why India is not pouring more resource in this discipline..

Huge doping scandals every 5 years., so many Indian lifters faced bans. Not a good look on the sport, maybe that's why.

The spat that our boxing federation has had with AIBA in last 7-8 years has hurt us the most. So many events missed by our boxers, limited access to other coaching and training setups and worst of all not being allowed to represent 'India' while BFI was suspended. One setback after another.

No, yet to be tested second time.

 

PS: This may just be rumour. Don't really trust these Indian sources, more often wrong than right.

All. Almost all Olympians dope. 

 

Top athletes who win medals are all doping. Just have better masking agents to Cover up. Indian don't have that access due to poor resources. The india do have an advanced doping program, they will medals in all sports. 

 

Every 100 m sprinter is on roids. Hard to catch them because they have top notch designer drugs. 

 

Russians have been banned before. 

Chinese have been banned. Americans have been banned but they just keep developing more advanced masking agents to cover up their heinous doping programs.
