Won 7 medals but all of them in proper sports (boxing, wrestling, javelin, hockey, badminton, weightlifting), played across the world. Not this skateboarding, artistic swimming, equestrian nonsense.

Our world champions are fake because top players from top countries don't participate in them. Level of competition and pressure in those championship is not Olympics level.

Is making outlandish statements to insult our Olympics athletes your favourite pastime?

I can still give a pass to synchronised swimming. Can't be easy to have that level of co-ordination and make it looks aesthetic.

Equestrian is a total  event. Also it depends on the prowess of the horse to some extent. In that it's unfair because one could simply be a great equestrian jumper or whatever it's called but yet lose coz of a substandard horse. What next? Formula racing? Or hovercraft racing? Piggyback on a Dolphin and race?

A medal should be won solely on the skill of the athlete and not on other variables.

Don't you think the ranking system is a bit flawed? I mean yeah.. gold is what everyone plays for but how is it fair that a country with a gold in one sport (Bermuda, Morocco, Puerto Rico) is ranked higher than another with multiple (7-8 times more) medals in multiple sports (Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan)?

I think they should introduce a system where Gold=3, Silver=2, Bronze=1 or something like that.

Although I don't think countries below the top 10 really care about their rankings so never mind.

Only the top 2 matters, rest are statistical for others This time everyone wanted USA to beat China, those Pangolin munchers them

Unrelated to Olympics but still...Rash Behari Bose of course most famous for organizing INA and handing it over to Netaji Bose.

Can't...Haryana is good in boxing, wresting, throwing events.

To become like China we have to target many disciplines. How will other states manage in sports like swimming, diving, gymnastics, tennis, rowing, sailing, fencing, equestrian, basketball, golf, canoeing etc? India as a country hasn't reached that level where it can do well in these kind of sports against an international field. May happen in 2050s, not in immediate future.

These are the disciplines where China fetched medals this time

Medals by sport
Sport 1st place, gold medalist(s) 2nd place, silver medalist(s) 3rd place, bronze medalist(s) Total
Artistic swimming 0 2 0 2
Athletics 2 2 1 5
Badminton 2 4 0 6
Basketball 0 0 1 1
Boxing 0 2 0 2
Canoeing 1 2 0 3
Cycling 1 0 0 1
Diving 7 5 0 12
Fencing 1 0 0 1
Gymnastics 4 5 2 11
Karate 0 1 1 2
Rowing 1 0 2 3
Sailing 1 0 1 2
Shooting 4 1 6 11
Swimming 3 2 1 6
Table tennis 4 3 0 7
Taekwondo 0 0 1 1
Weightlifting 7 1 0 8
Wrestling 0 2 2 4
Total 38 32 18 88

Like China we must look to dominate a few events, but we aren't going to have such a variety of events to medal in, definitely not in our lifetimes.

China's rise in Summer Olympics is nothing short of a miracle. I am sure they will start repeating this kind of performance in Winter Olympics, maybe this decade itself.

But even in boxing and wrestling, there are several weight categories for both male and female.  We can still target those.  Greco Roman and weight lifting too.  We should look to field 30 athletes for boxing, wrestling, and weight lifting alone. There can even be a scenario where we have 2-3 athletes in just one category eyeing for a medal.

To an extent this is true. In sports like Wrestling, Boxing, Athletics, Hockey (and Kabbadi), Haryana has a rudimentary yet functional system of spotting talent early and sending them to specialised schools (similar to gurukuls). What helps is the immense popularity of local competitions in these sports with cash awards etc. Such events are heavily promoted by the communities. Kids take part and talented ones move to the next level.

The government has a system of rewarding performances across all levels - winning a medal even at the nationals guarantees a government job and from then on the rewards keep getting better and bigger.

However the world class technical expertise is still lacking and young talents get trained mostly in traditional methods (fitness regime, nutrition, equipment etc) . If we can somehow mix the traditional training with the modern technical training, we could very well become a proper powerhouse in these sports.

Like China we must look to dominate a few events, but we aren't going to have such a variety of events to medal in, definitely not in our lifetimes.

If we look it closely, China is unstoppable in 5 sports - Diving (7), Gymnastics(4), Shooting(4), Table Tennis(4) and Weightlifting(7) . 26 out of 38 gold medals came from these 5 sports.

China is also now competing well in Athletics(2) and Swimming(3) - 5 gold medals. Traditionally China is weak in these two sports which have bulk of medals. But making progress.

China under performed in Badminton(2) this time with just 2 Gold medals.

Other niche sport which China is now targeting is the water sports -  Canoning (1), Rowing(1) and Sailing(1) . All these sports are dominated by Europeans.

Also, two more niche sports cycling(1) and Fencing(1) are now on radar of China.

Eh. You saying it doesn't make it a fact. Why don't you name those world tournaments which did not have top competitors? Will wait to see some details to back up your claim

BTW, how exactly do you think those top competitors qualify for Olympics? It's not an invitational event.
