India should pick a discipline and prepare like bcci does for cricket World cup. Except the end is a 1-4 gold medals.

GB did a similar thing with cycling then hoovered up all the medals in the field

Britain got 1 gold and 15 medals in 1996 and it was deemed as hugely embarrassing. they set up a national lottery then with all funding going towards olympic sports.

now in 2016 they got 27 golds and 67 medals.

Imagine 3 disciplines and dominance it will be par for course after that in terms of medals.

Archery we better pick a few medals this time . Everytime we have players ranked no1, WC winners but Olympics we choke

Deepika has been guilty of that since 2012. She seems to have settled since she married fellow Archer Atanu Das. Hopefully they have a good shot in the mixed event.

You cant do that as it will discourage all other sports. Its not only medals its also livelihood. Kabaddi is not an olympics sports but sports ministry spends a lot on it and many livelihoods depends on it ( coaches etc). So the focus should be on all sports but yes have Centres of Excellence on select few where medal chances are high. India is doing similar under TOPS but its more geared towards individuals than the discipline in itself..

India should focus on few disciplines to get medals its what all countries do, and in doing so you would start somewhere being as good as number 4 is every discipline still fetches you 0 medals. This thinking is flawed that focusing on few disciplines will discourage others no one is banning other sports.

Can we get 10 medals this time ?

PV Sindhu is expected to be on podium finish in Badminton.
Bajrang is top wrestler in his category. Vinesh Phogat is highly ranked in her category.
Deepika Kumari & Atanu Das- Indvidual & mixed team. Both medal contenders in Archery
Saurabh Chahudary & Manu Bhaskar - top medal prospect in shooting plus there are others shooters also who can surprise.
Mirabhai Chanu- Red hot favourite in weightlifting.
Amit Panghal- sure shot medal contentder in boxing.
Neeraj Chopra- if he can do his personal best javelin throw, he can nick a bronze.
Hockey Team ( Men) - consistently in top 4 from last 2 years. Can surprise us this time.

This is the golden opportunity for India. Lots of talented athletes under one contingent.
If not now then when?

You never know when suddenly one sport throws up a champion. Prime eg javelin. No one would have thought india would suddenly be a contender for javeline of all events in atheletics.. also deepa karmakar last time in gymnastics.. thats why said we need centres of excellence or what is called high performance academies for select sports which uk has
