Jayant : England struggle against quality off spin.. ashwin muralitharan lyon have all made england look fools. In India the best off spinner is Ashwin and then zilch. Only offspinner we have who is regular in FC matches is Jayant Yadav and so he has been sent ( mind you Sundar hasnt even played FC in a while still he was there).

SKY : Here it becomes interesting. The middle order is made of 5 players Pujara Kohli Rahane Rahul Hanuma. Out of this Rahul was once upon a time opener so basically 4 proper middle order batsman. So now you cast your net and go to FC and who do you find: just nobody who is breaking the door.. so we check 2019 Ranji statistics and here you get the following top 4 scorers..

 

1. Sarfraz Khan

2. Punit Bisht ( kohlis close friend u19 wc winner playing in plate)

3. Anushtup Majumdar ( old now was a good bengal batsman)

4. Arpit Vasvada

All plate stuff. So the only one coming out who is there in both years is S Khan but issue is he is person non grata with his fitness. 
 

So what options do TM have? The safest option. Go by guts and by performance in LOI format and this is where Sky comes in as he looked good in all matched he played. Plus he became the MOS in the odis and looked assured. Thus he got the call..

I thought Roy and Hales getting selected for test matches was dumbest move, Now I have seen all if SKY gets to play for India in test matches. Eshawaran is raw but yeah lets include Sky.

T20 specialist SKY getting test call up. I initially thought it was a rumour.  But our TM is well known for their atrocious decisions. They kept playing hahane in T20 format earlier.                                                      I hope SKY and Shaw fly after 3 days.  So, hopefully we would hv won the T20 series in SL by then.    But only time will tell.

Is this a call by the selectors or by the TM bcoz I heard that BCCI asked selectors not to bow down to demands of TM.

I am ok with Shaw and Sky's selection to some extent but we should have selected Bhuvi instead of Jayant. Looks like the selectors went with like for loke replacement for Washi.

Agreed middle order batting stocks are dry...  Vihari is supposed to best middle order bat in India.  SKY playing tests may not be bad move as he is in his prime & in good touch.  Lower middle order would suit him I guess. 

Should play his natural game.

I meant he hasnt plsyed 5 day matches. You need certain fitness levels. He has a very bad injury record since he started playing.

i am amazed many people here dont even know SKY has an average of 44 in FC with 5300 runs. When he started playing he was the one who many considered would be the next one to break into indian team after Rahane and Rohit.

Wtf this is awful if true...I mean DDP surely has zero chance of playing in the test series.. with Shaw already departing for England we had a golden opportunity to test him in the SL t20 series what idiots the selectors are

DDP is more of a LOI player now anyways.FC numbers are bad.

44 is decent at best. Shankar has that and will also offer bowling.SKY's technique is not suited to Tests let alone in England.

 

We also have Karun Nair with 48 average.Also did well in A tour in England 2018 IIRC

He averages 45 in first class. He is no scrub. He is good.

early morning mumbai wickets are much more difficult to bat on flat chinnaswamy where Karun Nair grew up playing. Also playing in 3 stadiums in Mumbai. A Mumbai average of 44 is not bad. He had an avergae of over 50 first few yrs and then he had a dip

Now Paddikal has an awful technique as a red ball opener.  But I think TM wants dashers after dashers.  

Either boom boom or bust.  Now our safe n defensive batting has failed massively in England over the years.   Our players simply don't have the technique to last long there. 

They lose concentration early &,  inns building is also missing as even our seniors don't play enough domestic or County cricket. 

 

I think going ultra aggressive won't be a bad move.
