I think Ashwin will replace Shardul. Rest will be same unless they want to bring in Ishant for one of Shami or Siraj just to ensure  the bowlers do not run out of gas over a course of 5 tests.

England will make sure there is 8-10 mm of grass left on the pitch making the prospect of playing 2 spinners impossible. It will likely be sunny meaning better batting conditions on days 2 & 3. Days 4 &5 will be tricky due to the indententations left on the pitch (similar to first test in 2018). Chasing 250+ in the last innings may become difficult.

 

Btw, statistically, Shardul was India's second best bowler. Shami and Siraj need to be much more disciplined. If India can't get rid of Root quickly, they need to make sure he needs to work hard for his runs. Bowl 4th &5th stump line with a 3rd man in place.

 

Bold prediction: Pujara will score 50+ and put his selection debate to rest for a while.

I think this time it will backfire for England. This is not 2018. Though Lolli and the middle order are as duds as Dodos, the bowlers will definitely bowl better than last time.

 

Infact, I doubt Moeen will have much impact this time around. He has lost his reflexes against the pacers since 2019 or so. His bowling won't suit them much if the pitch is green.

 

If we can get the batters around Root like in Nottingham early, we can restrict them below 250.

Also, I think Ishant should play at Lords. Has a good record there. If he plays in this series at all, it should be Lords.

 

He will be better than Shami in swinging conditions.

depends on conditions,unless its a greentop or rain forecast I'll pick Ash

 

He did pick 4 in WTC including 3 top order v much better team so its not clear cut

In any match all 4 pacers are not running hot anyway. In that particular match the bowlers did their job for the first innings even though they were not super impressive as a group. We would have won or drawn the WTC final with better batting and not by dropping one of Ashwin/Jadeja.

If it is not overcast conditions and not expected to rain, India should restrict themselves to three pacers and play both Ashwin and Jadeja.

 

If it is overcast, helpful for swing bowling and there will be rain interruption too like in WTC Final, then Shardul ahead of Ashwin.

 

Lords test forecast is good and heard it is gonna be a better batting wicket, probably more like Day 4 of first Test. Hence, in that case play Ashwin and Jadeja both. They will be lethal in a full 5 days game.

Jadeja as a batsman failed in WTC, having to bat with tail is not his forte, takes singles off the first ball and exposes the tail. If we had picked Shardul, he would have served better than Ashwin , all iffs and butts.
