Will Root end up with a higher average than Kohli?

From looking like he would end up scaling the highest tiers of test batting around 2016-17, it seems Kohli will settle into the level of Mohd. Yousuf in Test Cricket, who had one insane year (2006) and couple of good ones here and there. Make no mistake,  its still a very good level/standard but definitely no ATG.

Is he a better bat than KP and ABDV?

root is much better than KP. ABDV underachieved in tests, so I'd put Root on par with ADBV although the latter is much more talented.

No need to even talk about Rat in the same vein here.

Md. Yousuf was a much better HTB than Kohli, which is why he'll always have a much better avg.

We are actually doing serious injustice to our batsmen by producing dust Bowls at home. Every top batsman is piling runs at home but we in an attempt create false supremacy over our opposition are creating dust bowls giving cheap wickets to spinners. Look at Jadeja, he has become so habitual of taking cheap wickets on rank turners in India that he is looking like a part timer in England. No one can guess he is averaging 24 in test cricket after watching him bowl harmless stuff in England.

When they were given flat deck, India replied with 72-4 at Chennai v England earlier and lost the match.

Puraja, Kohli, Rahane are no longer capable of scoring big 100s and double 100s on flat pitches.

So they realized that batting is inept anyway and will score 250-300 on all conditions. Better to avoid highways.

It's very important that Kohli retires as a batsman of more or less the same calibre as Vengasarkar, Pujara etc. Some outstanding highs, and some memorable knocks, and challenged the very best of his era for a couple of seasons but ultimately lacked the quality to sustain the excellence that standout GOATs/ATGs possess in spades.

Nope, he has already done enough combining all formats to get an ATG tag.

Even if there is no peak coming ahead for him, he will retire at ABDV level. That's a bare minimum.

In other news, Steve Smith's average dropped below 60.

yes, for the first time since 2017 I think. labu's avg also went below 60 in this series. conway is the only one with a 60+ avg and that is largely thanks to playing eng and bang in conditions he knows well. in this era, it seems unlikely that people can avg over 60 (or even 55).
