He rarely plays cut shots but others like Rahane and Pujara used to play this a lot. 

 

See, one thing to note is that playing cut shot in England is definitely a risk because you need to leave the balls where bowlers offer you a certain width but still some short of length balls needs to be dispatched. 

 

Kohli rarely played that and he succeeded without doing that in 2018 so no problem with him others like Rahane and Pujara need to play it more often

It's not always about square cut..  When the ball is fuller you need to open the bat face play late & target square boundaries like Root does.  Cover drive is the most dangerous shot in England..

The most difficult shot in cricket only the most gifted players can play that. 

 

ONLY Kl Rahul from this team plays that shot. 

Can't blame the team for not playing this shot but yeah cuts and slashes are important.

Rohit plays that as well but yeah Rahul actually is most gifted of the lot & plays it rather easily than others. 

Among left handers Jadeja stays inside the crease & targets square boundaries a lot & probably that's why despite being a no 7 he gets handy runs.

Maybe once in a while, although I have never seen him do that even in lois let alone tests.

agree,Kohli never had a cut shot so its okay

 

problem seems others seem to bat his way than finding their own way.All are batting too forward.Even Pant who showed cuts in Aus is batting outside the crease.

Honestly this shot should be a natural shot for all the top batsmen. But Kohli it is not. In an effort to kill the swing he keeps standing outside the crease and trying to receive on the frontfoot. Basically he is trying to play sooner where he has to play late.  Kahane when he was in form could play this too.

Yes, we lost but I would say bowling was top class yesterday. They made full use of the help they were getting from the pitch. Anderson was bowling leg breaks. Robinson moved both ways along with his bounce. Pitch wasn't flat as said by many, especially in the morning, at least for two hours there was a lot of assistance. They couldn't weather the storm. Same thing happened in first innings though they also played some real bad shots in the first innings. I think did get a reality check in this test.

and we had Ishant trundling in with both new balls. Atleast Shami would have got swing or Thakur if he played

fab batting as always. the thing with smith that some people don't understand is that his technique is unorthodox but very sound. he often plays late, plays quite close to the body (because he gets to where the ball is through footwork), his eyes are locked onto the ball and aligned with it, etc.

That's not green. Very similar to headingly track on day one. Ishant was rubbish.

100% agree. Worst part is that if you do a wrong thing 5 times, it may still throw up the right result once. And then, he tries to get back at the critics as if it was some sort of vindication.
