zen Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 (edited) No matter what happens in the 2021 T20 WC, Ind needs to move away from Rohit, Kohli, KL (grey zone), Shami, Bhuvi, Ashwin, and Jadeja ... Pant keeping is also not too inspiring (feels like a part time keeper on many occasions), so needs to finally iron out his keeping. I am hoping for a team with players with clutch qualities. For an 11 from the following options: Openers: Gaikwad, V Iyer, KL (feel uncomfortable with him in knockouts), & Shaw (fielding needs to improve) #3-4: SKY, Kishan, Samson, Gill, ... #5-6: SDP (can be the captain to bring in positive fearless cricket), Pant (needs to either play in top order #1-3 or in lower middle order where he has to get going without thinking much) #7: Samad, Tewatia, Sundar (hoping he develops his hitting abilities and fielding), ... Pace: Bowlers: Bumrah, Siraj, D Chahar, Tyagi, Natthu, Malik (if he maintains pace and improves), Thakur (if batting well), Arshdeep, Avesh, ... Spin: Bishnoi, R Chahar, ... Time to step back. Even if these guys fail initially, they will learn from the experience and win India one cup at some point. Edited November 1, 2021 by zen Vijy, Adi_91, Banton and 1 other 1 1 2
GautiMaan Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 This is the same strategy with a different group of players,it will also lead to a template being set and the same thing will happen in a couple of years.. What India needs is a drastic change in how they approach t20 cricket..like England have done with their game Perhaps open with Pant and Kishan..SDP at 3 to tackle the spinners zen 1

Both of these guys should start to bat in the top 3 in IPL as a starting point.
Vijy Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 Ideal T20 XI for any country is as follows IMO: Batter 1 (consolidator), Batter 2 (140+ SR), Batter 3 (floater - double up as consolidator/aggressor), Batter 4 (play spin well and score at good SR), Batter 5 (wk) [aggressive - score at 140+ SR), All-rounder 1 (score at 150+ SR and bowl pace), All-rounder 2 (score at 150+ SR and bowl spin), All-rounder 3 (score at 150+ SR and bowl pace/spin), Bowler 1 (wrist-spin or attacking mystery spin), Bowler 2 (out-and-out pacer + PP specialist), and Bowler 3 (out-and-out pacer + death over specialist) One of top 5 must bowl to some extent. One of Bowlers 1-3 (positions 9-11) must be capable of tonking some runs, like rashid khan or southee. this will lead to 7 bowling options + batting till 9. If we follow the template outlined above and identify correct players for correct positions, either winning or making finals of T20 WCs would be a clincher
Serpico Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 SDP shouldn't be allowed into team until he can re learn how to play off side. Swinging everything to legside like a hack tailender right now Make bumrah captain Lord, ykvyas, raki05 and 2 others 1 4

Vijy Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 Consolidator: Gill/Gaikwad Dasher: Shaw/Mayank/Venky Iyer [both can score at 140+ SR; V. Iyer can bowl too] Consolidator/Dasher: KLR/S. Iyer/V. Iyer [KLR has the game, but is mentally suspect] Spin specialist/part-time bowler: SKY [needs to start doing more bowling IMO to become 7th bowler] Keeper: Pant/ishan [both have clear limitations, but are young and can work on them] All-rounder spin with 150+ SR: if Samad works on both batting and bowling, he could take over at 6 All-rounder pace with 150+ SR: Thakur, with Nalkande as potential back-up; Pandu before injury was a potential candidate All-rounder spin/pace with 150+ SR: no one on horizon. Sundar can score at 120 SR. might be best bet for now Wrist spinner/slogger, who can tonk a bit: no one on horizon for batting skills. maybe Rahul chahar, if he fixes bowling and works on slogging. Pacer with 140+ and PP specialist: Siraj, with Umran Malik groomed as backup Pacer with 140+ and death specialist: Bumrah if all issues are properly handled, we would have batting till 9 and 7 bowling options.

Ind has usually won big tournaments because of likes of Srikant, Kapil, Dhoni, Yuvi, Raina, Gambhir, … Not many technically good batsmen have stood up and in fact served to spoil Ind’s chances

This should be the exact mindset. Our so called technically correct batters have succumbed to batting collapses every time the ball moves or there is pressure. Why not fill the team with very high SR batters who can win on most days. And there is no point in picking medium pacers in any format unless there is batting ability at 8. We must pick 145 k quicks with accuracy as our specialist pacers. New guy 1

Kishan started like crap, Pant did jack all in the middle and Pandu did $HIT finishing. All of them got overs to bat. Axar is poor version of Jadeja and chahar is another bhuvi. This team just does not have Kohli effect though. Granted Kishan didn’t do well, but considering the number of games under his belt & the pressure he was in, he needs a longer rope. pant has been blowing hot & cold. Frankly if there is a better batsman than pant & kishan clicks, pant can be dropped.

Last match he successfully accelerated the innings and when he got out playing a hoick people criticised him for playing a rash shot. Hence you see him batting conservatively in the next jatch6.. Stop penalising players for playing their natural game first, before kicking them out

Most of the players have 5 or less years of international experience. They are like a Rohit in 2011 or earlier for e.g. People are clubbing these guys with those who have been playing international cricket since 2007 (Rohit)-2008 (Kohli). Kohli’s best World Cup was in 2014-16 (6-8 years after his debut) and Rohit’s in ODIs in 2019 (12 years after his debut). Edited November 1, 2021 by zen GautiMaan 1

zen Posted November 7, 2021 Author Posted November 7, 2021 Will Ind get closer to creating the Team 2022
chewy Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 I don't know about 2022 WC but based on last 3 IPL seasons and knowing WC was going to be on slow UAE pitches i cant believe at least 2 from following were not in the XI: Mayank, Samson, Rana, Kishan, Bishnoi, Rituraj, Siraj, Arshdeep I don't know how T20 has beens like Kohli, Rohit, Shami, Jadeja ended playing 4 games! These guys have been pathetic T20 players in IPLs last few seasons. And not to discount some using IPL for match practice by captaining and opening the innings. Selfish Cowards. No wonder they can't handle pressure.
