Just for fun, prepared a list for the top 8 nations. Time Period is 1992-2021.

How many of you agree.... Please share your lists as well

India -  Sachin Tendulkar

Pakistan -  Wasim Akram

Australia - Ricky Ponting

England - James Anderson

South Africa - Jacques Kallis

New Zealand - Kane Williamson

Sri Lanka - Muttiah Muralitharan

West Indies - Brian Lara

Posted

India .... Dhoni after 2016  ( kept reading that any good thing any of our players did were due to his guidance )

Pakistan .... Bottle Caps

Australia .... Warne

England .... Clouds and weather ( which make even ordinary seamers like Robinson run through sides )

New Zealand .... Team India ( our repeated losses to them at every critical juncture have made them the team they are )

West Indies .... Lara

Agree with all except for Australia..It's Steve Smith hands down.

If you only include Tests... Have considered all formats. Plus Ponting's captaincy

Agreed apart from Australia - i'd pick McGrath over Ponting

It was a close call but I gave edge to Ponting for leading that dominant side as well

I was including odis as well. Smith was exceptional in knockouts.

India: Sachin Tendulkar. Not even a contest

WI: Brian Lara: again obvious choice

England: Jimmy Anderson

Australia: this is a tough one. Toss up between Ponting,Mcgrath and Warne, I will go with Warne.

SA: Toss up between AB,Steyn and Kallis. On impact will go with Steyn. Kallis was never a match winner and AB doesn’t have the returns proportional to his talent.

Nzl: Kane Williamson.

Srilanka: Mutalitharan. Toss up between Murali and Sanga

Pakistan: Wasim Akram

Bangladesh: Shakib

Zimbabwe: Andy Flower

Afghanistan: Rashid Khan. It will take some doing for the next Afghan player to overtake Rashid’s legacy as a superstar from Afghan

Only one WC though.. And overall as a ODI player Ponting is a far superior player

Considering multiple formats, different skills, and uniqueness.

Australia: Warne … Best leg spinner of AT. Smart cricketer. Great performance in 1999 WC final as well

Bangladesh: Sakib

England: Pietersen … A batsman who can get into almost any team post 1990. Helped Eng win the 2010 T20 WC

India: MSD … No Indian player has combined 3 skills as well as he has. Tournament winning captain of 07 T20WC and 11 WC, along with 2013 CT.

New Zealand: Contenders for me include Martin Crowe, mostly a 80s player with some legendary performances versus WI, and Bond, who had a short but impactful career. NZ has not seen such a pace bowler yet (Hadlee was more of an 80s cricketer) … Martin retired in 1994 and his performance as a batsman and captain in 1992 WC was magical … Will go with Martin.

Pakistan: Akram. Unique as a left arm pace bowler and considered the sultan of swing.

South Africa: Steyn (Donald can be considered too, along with Klusener for uniqueness and impact)

Sri Lanka: Murali

West Indies: A competition between two magical cricketers - Lara and Ambrose. Tests b/w a declining WI and a rising Aus were stuff of legends and both these cricketers have sone out of the world performances. Lara has a great record versus McGrath-Warne … But will go with Ambrose for pulling off some sensational wins. 4th innings, Ambrose bowling, it is a different ball game. You have to see it to believe.

Zimbabwe: Andy Flower

Kane Williamson  is one of their top run getters and probably will end up their best batsman of all times, won the WTC, should have won the WC if not from all the drama, almost a joint winner, IPL winner and captained a mediocre team well whenever required and potential WT20 contender as well.

Martin Crowe retired in 1994 so he only played for 4 years the time frame mentioned of 30 years and after the 92 wc was pretty much done.

As I said, he did retire in 1994 but even in that short period, he gave some magical performances. If ppl actually watched Crowe, there is no competition with Williamson, who is not that great overseas.

In fact, as a batsman + captaincy combo, I would pick Crowe over any Indian player as well. Just watch him play reverse swing, which almost everyone struggled against, v Pak.

RPT and FCA don’t apply to a few players, last match a couple of Pandya hoicks were dropped and so was the FCA theory :phehe:

What is FCA now?
