Sean Bradley Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Thoughts? We literally butcher them on hometurf every time they step out of the boat. We played well in the LOIs on our last tour to NZ, and fought well in the Tests. But come ICC Knockout games and the latest addition of WTC final, some dark forces in the cosmos start devising plans to kick our Bu***. How do we end this curse ?
sandeep Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Thak gaya hoon chilla chilla kar. Have been shouting about changing Indian batting unit tactics and mindset for 5+ years now. The problem is not kiwi-specific, its India specific. Quote Need to change the definition of 'click' to address this. Right now, top order is given blank check to go and eat balls, and get away with selfishness, as long as they "deliver" big innings 3out of 5 times. that's not good enough. Change what 'click' means. It means not letting the team momentum flag at any point. Team has 120 balls to bat. first 6 overs of the game have to target producing 33% of final total. A 40/0 'start' even if they 'catch up' later should be considered failure by openers, not "click". Until that happens, we are going to be stuck in this cycle, where we win a lot, but then "suddenly" fail in a crunch game when things don't go as planned. This problem is same in ODI cricket too. Top 3 are "world class" but then team shits the bed when they "fail". Because thats how the team is structured. Need to change the structure, and tactics, give the middle order better opportunities, and then ask them to succeed or fail as a unit. When you have a caste system in batsmen where "top order" hogs everything, and demands that "lower order" do the sewer cleaning, high risk low probability job of "attacking cricket" without giving them the chances to build confidence, temperament, is it any wonder when they fail. The whole thing is setup that way. Then you will have "smart bois" arguing that Indian "middle order" is low quality etc. Banjo you ask a soldier to go fight at 10 to 1 odds with a one shot a minute rifle, and then say hey you are not good enough. thats why we only give machine guns to the "better guys". Load of bullshit and majority of cricket fanbase, media just lap it up. Norman, zen, AuxiliA and 2 others 5

nevada Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 If Rohit were captain, we would have won the toss in the T20WC game and ended the voodoo. The Kiwis have been lucky with the toss and conditions for an extended period of time. Nothing lasts forever, not even our losing streak against them. The next time we play them in a knockout, we will beat them.
Jay Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 This is why I dont rate bilaterals. Pakistan used to beat us in bikaterals back in 90s and also in those tri series. It doesn't mean much. Intensity is much lower compared to ICC tournaments.
vvvslaxman Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 Kohli becomes gutless moment he is up against NZ.
Vijy Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 (edited) It's because Rat luuurves Willy (Williamson) and becomes putty in Willy's hands. On a more serious note, there is some luck (e.g., tosses), some bad selections, mental midgetry, and so on - several factors at play. Edited November 20, 2021 by Vijy

Vijy Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 Just now, rkt.india said: He becomes gutless against Pak too these days. agreed... what he needs is a rapidly expanding gut (i.e., belly) as Rohit has.
