The legend of Krishnappa Gowtham.

I remember posting a thread on this guy when he was picked for some astronomical amount in the IPL. This was back when uncapped players getting huge sums in IPL auction was not a normal thing.

I was told he was a LOI specialist who can hit big and bowl handy spinners: the usual excuse for average cricketers who are neither batsmen or bowlers.

Anyway I don’t think I have ever seen a memorable Gowtham spell or knock in IPL either.

Anyways I am sure lesser players than Gowtham have had IPL careers and made good money so good for him.

However where I am puzzled is this guy keeps getting picked in every A tours, even found his way to an India cap

The fact that K. Gowtham is picked for A team in SA should be a concern about our spin stocks or the quality of back up players.

Am I missing something here, is he a domestic legend or something or is he one of those “mercurial” tailunts?

Can someone educate me the credentials of this legend.

Gautam was a handy offie once upon a time, since then he has regressed. Considering there are hardly any offspinners in domestic circuit, and he has got some fame in IPL, he gets picked. Most probably he may not get huge sum this time, there by ending a short career.

We are playing Jayant in SA.

Axar is a ray of hope for the next gen.

India became poor players of spin once the Fab 5 retired.

I don't want our spin stocks to go the same route.

We are not playing Jayant in SA unless Ashwin gets injured again.  Which is very possible.

Spinner in SA has to bat #7 at least.  And bat well.  Jadeja was a #5/6 batsman for India and invaluable in tours like SA.  I just hope Ashwin grabs this chance, stays fit and gets a chance to bowl in the 3rd/4th innings with a total behind him.

In IPL some players mysteriously gets sold for million times more than they are worth.  This guy got foolishly picked up by CSK. Now they have to keep him relevant.  This is another kind of "nepotism".

Jayant is a likeable fellow.

But its shocking he is next in the pecking order to Axar.

Axar got injured so he is in.

Either our spin reserves are woeful or its a selection fiasco.

our spin stocks are at a low level nowadays, which is why he's been selected. people like him and jayant are not even of the caliber of Kanwaljit Singh in the 1990s.

He isn't picked because he is a spinner. He is picked because he can bat. Because we don't have a seam alrounder, we need a spin alrounder. But I think Sundar should have been picked as he is playing VH trophy.

R Sai kishore is bowling brilliantly in SMAT & now in Vijay Hazare...  Yet frauds like Gowtham are picked.

It's a shame even CSK doesn't pick Sai Kishore. Once they qualify for playoffs, why not give a chance to local talent?

Jayant is picked because he can bat, as cover for our terminally declined middle order.

This just shows the lack of spin talent in Indian dometic circuit. If Shahbaz Nadeem and Krishnappa Gautam are next in line, go save our team. Ashwin will be the last great Indian spinner.

These days batting skill is viewed as an essential aspect for a spinner given that fast bowling all rounder is rare to find.

But this guy isn't even a good batsman! There was a certain Jalaj Saxena.. has he retired for good? Or did we miss out on him because of Ashwin?
