Mesky99 Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Venkatesh batting in the middle order for Madhya Pradesh gives him another dimension to his game and fits the requirements for Indian cricket in limited overs cricket, I understand his success in the ipl was at the top of the order, his ability to take on pace initially and get of to fast starts was something which India needs but with Rahul, Rohit scoring consistently regardless of their intent and failing in pressure situations, they were never in a position to be dropped, Ishan Kishan again looks good to open when right/left combo is needed at the top, venky should now be the replacement for pandya not shardul, we want a sixth bowler who can chip in with overs, shardul can play as a third seamer with Siraj/prasidh and bumrah, this gives us good dept in the batting front. Dhawan will have to be slowly phased out, otherwise we will be at a stage where Rohit, dhawan, kohli all loose form at the same time, all being dropped or retiring at a similar period, three/four young batsmen coming in then at the top will not be a natural transition, first dhawan gets replaced, gaikwad in and then in a few years Rohit goes, hopefully by then paddikal, jaiswal or Shaw will be ready. Only one from iyer or Surya will play at 4 with Rahul at, pant 6, venky 7.
Majestic Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 ODIs and T20 team for India :- ODIs:- Rohit Dhawan Kohli Pant(wkt) KL V Iyer Shardul/Deepak Axar Spinner Siraj Bumrah T20s:- Rohit KL Kohli SKY/ S Iyer Pant(wkt) V Iyer Shardul/D Chahar Axar Spinner Siraj Bumrah Mesky99 1
Mesky99 Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 Agree no wholesale Changes in the odi setup, both gaikwad and iyer are ready for international honours, we can try out different combos in t20s, Sanju, venky, pant, Ishan can all be tried out in different positions, abhishek Manohar, shahrukh, prerak mankad are all contenders for the finishers role imo, two spinners in t20, bishnoi the leggie, bumrah, Siraj and a third seamer in harshal, back up pacers could be prasidh, umran, tyagi and natarajan. No place for chahar or bhuvi, shardul in tests and at times odi.

Gill/Ishan can be number three replacements, sky at 4 and Rahul at 5.
Dery Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Ruturaj / Ishan Rohit V. Iyer Kohli S.Iyer Pant Should be our line up
Lone Wolf Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 I think it will be better to keep Ishan in only T20 set up. Although I want him in Test cricket sooner as back up of Pant. In ODIs Rohit Gaikwad Kohli Iyer/Rahul Pant Venky Ashwin Axar Shardul /Deepak Siraj Bumrah For SA ODIs.
prudent_kreeda Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 I feel he should be in XI for 50 overs at least. Feel he will do very well even in middle overs say 20-40 overs where there are only 4 outside the ring. He plays spin very well and has both slog sweep and fine sweep . In fact he even sweeps pacers. His game is based on timing and placement rather than brute force. i feel easily he can bat 100+ strike rate in MO . Hence he can be played #3 or #4 till opener position opens up. Not that sure about his game upfront when there is some movement. Right now most of the MO youngsters are boom or bust. Need 1 guy at least who is consistent. However best course of action is play him as opener now itself & move on from Shikhar. Will get time to iron out some of the weakness in his game against pace i.e moving ball and head high ball where he plays weak shot in the air on the on side .

Chakdephatte Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Ruturaj can and should replace Dhawan straightaway. Venky, I am not as big a fan of him as I am of HaPa, but should replace him going by current form. Axar-Washington should be groomed as Jadeja's replacement. Any decent swing bowler should replace Bhuvi. Lord 1

Just Bumrah and KL, and Rohit. Dhawan, Shami, were match winners till 2019, not sure about now, Kohli definitely is not one. Bhuvi and Jadeja are liabilities, can flukes few performances here and there. Pant will win us some matches, only if the TM shoes some trust him. HP can be, if he takes himself seriously. We either have pretenders like Jadeja or players well past their best. That is the problem. Should start by replacing Dhawan, Bhuvi, HP, and slowly other players. Sunil_narine024 1

Due to lack of foresight by both the selectors and team management, iyer, pant and kl could have all played in the middle order for the 2019 world cup, biggest selection blunder ever was going back to DK, rayudu, Kedar and Pandey in the 2018 Asia cup, earlier even Raina was brought in for the England odi's. Only after loosing the semi final against NZ did some sense kick in the selectors head, iyer, kl, pant finally got middle order positions but sadly pant has flattened to deceive and kl king of soft runs. SK_IH Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 I am more keen on Sharukh's performance. He is hitting it damn well lower down. Let's get him into the T20 side at the earliest. Lower middle order has to get rid of likes of Jadeja Sunil_narine024 1
Lord Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 where will Gaikwad bat? Top 3 is booked by seniors

Rahul fits the bill in the middle order spot with his range against pace, his numbers at 5 are terrific.
