vvvslaxman Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 if the game is a crunch game you would want Laxman and GR Viswanath :) Chakdephatte, Vijy and raki05 3

My own quibble would be that both Ashwin and Jadeja are not proven overseas as Chandra was, which is why I picked him - and I've seen enough of his unique bowling. I'd also have Kapil in for his AR ability. He wasn't that much worse than Sri before his decline (let's remember he had a v. long career) and could bat and field much better. Overall, an excellent team of course. Kapil dev was one the best bowler against no.1 West Indian side through the 80s that too without soda bottle cap. Outstanding fielder someone who can field anywhere. Effect many direct hits. Also a crunch batsman. Some of his test knocks are outstanding. Most famous was hitting 4 sixes to avoid follow on. Overall, an excellent team of course. I have actually chosen Jadeja as the all-rounder at No.7 in place of Kapil. Primarily because he would give much more consistency as a batsman than Kapil. Plus slightly better fielder and more effective bowler in Asian conditions. As a pure bowler, Srinath and Kapil are quite comparable in terms of efficiency and my personal preference for extra pace and bounce made me choose Srinath. So, the shootout becomes between Ashwin and Chandra. I have not watched Chandra bowl and Ashwin is a much better performer outside Asia in the last 2 years. So, I preferred to choose the player I have actually watched bowl. P.S -- Bumrah, Srinath and Shami bowling in tandem, is actually my dream pace trio. All of them Fast ... one tall and bouncy ... another short and skiddy .. and the best one is medium height and both bouncy and skiddy. [ Bumrah + Siraj / Umran + Prasidh / Tyagi can create a similar combo in the near future ] Edited January 1, 2022 by express bowling Sgattick10 and raki05 2

You have to have good knowledge of history of Indian cricket to think beyond Tendulkar era and not many people do, they are more inclined to pick current players like Pant who is very promising but not there yet. Even Kapil is not in some people's team who for me is the greatest cricketer played for India, ahead of Gavaskar and Tendulkar. People know more about Jadeja and Ashwin who take loads of wickets in home condition but not in SENA and forget the spinners of the past , particularly Chanrasekhar who was instrumental in India's rare overseas victories in his days. Ashwin has done better lately, but not over his entire career. One of the stipulations in the all-time XI is that people should be selected based on performance over entire career. Anyway, there are lots of good combos to be sure, when it comes to teams like this.

[ Bumrah + Siraj / Umran + Prasidh / Tyagi can create a similar combo in the near future ] WIth all due respect to Jaddu's batting, he is not even 10% as good as Kapil dev with bat. Jadeja has not faced the real fast bowling music in his life. Seaming, bouncing wickets against top flight bowlers. INfact Jaddu is not even as good as many all rounder batsman we have had. For christsake he has less centuries than Ashwin. Forget about Kapil he is not even half as good as Irfan pathan. AuxiliA and Vijy 1 1

Singlehandedly carried the INdian side in both formats for many years in all 3 departments without getting injured. Probably the best MVP. Lord and Majestic 2

He's proven time & again he isn't a Warne or even Kumble overseas, Jadeja is a much better bat & equally good in Asia as a bowler! Jadeja cannot pick wickets in overseas and if he does.. it will be tailenders or when the batsmen throw their bats.. I would pick Ashwin over Jadeja anytime when you have Kapil Dev in the team

Batting ability? duh. This guy batted at 3 at Perth. Stalled the great AUstralian bowling for 4 hours as an 18 year old. Thrashed bowlers like Umar Gul all over batting at no.3. He looked as good as regular batsmen in a lot of matches. How will you rate Jadeja as a pure batsman ignoring his bowling credentials. Don't compare with the current trimurthis. Sure anyone is going to be better than them in current form. He is not as good as let us say Sundar at this point. Edited January 1, 2022 by vvvslaxman

All of them playing crucial roles in winning/drawing these games. Sundar is a proper batsman who bowls. He should bat in top 5 AuxiliA 1

Two knocks only from last year 50 at MCG batting with Rahane and another 50 at Nottingham batting in much more difficult conditions and against far superior attacks. I wouldn't even go back further to pull out other stats. Now shift the goalposts as you usually do. AuxiliA 1

Yes fact that he was sent up the order with such elite batting line up should tell you how they rated him. He has opened in India made 93. Jadeja is at best a no.7 batsman. Not going to be doing any good up the order. Can he survive new ball opening? No way. Mishra got 81 as well. Agarkar has 100. But they are lower order batsman. They are not going to trust them to open an innings or come at no.3, With 3 triple centuries in domestic he is more a proper batsman than Sundar who did not even play any first class for 4 years when he made Test debut. He as a bowler definitely excelled.
ShoonyaSifar Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 No more derailing the thread as neither Jadeja nor Irfan are good enough to be in the all time 11. Lord 1

He made 46 & 55 batting a total of 6 hours. This was very early in his career. It was well recognized he had the ability of a specialist batsman. Greg Chappell considered him so that he was even promoted up the order. Sure it did screw up his bowling. Jadeja is a specialist batsman you suggest? https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/australia-tour-of-india-2004-05-61430/india-vs-australia-1st-test-64099/full-scorecard
