Popular Post express bowling Posted July 26, 2022 Popular Post Posted July 26, 2022 (edited) T20s put too much pressure on batters to hit every ball. There is limted opportunity to build an innings. And the middle order batters usually get very few balls to play. The bowlers are under pressure every ball too, as the batsmen attack them without break. And they rarely have opportunities to bowl proper spells or to set up a batsmen. Bowling just 4 overs a day do not test the stamina of pacers either. These scenarios are not ideal for introducing new players to international cricket or for grooming them for this highest level. Test matches are deemed too precious for introducing new players regularly. Very often we see a ready player having to wait 2 to 4 years before getting a test cap ... because the existing players are hanging on despite poor form or are actually good and deserve their spots. ODIs can prepare a new player for both test matches ( in the first 30 overs or so provided there is fight between bat and ball ) .... .and T20s ( in the last 15 overs or so ) Batsmen can build their innings unless they come in with 10 overs remaining. Bowlers can bowl in spells and almost every bowler gets to bowl atleast one 4 or 5 over spell in every match. And there isn't that much pressure to either hit or to stop getting hit every ball. With some top international players losing interest in ODIs as it is not as financially lucrative as T20s or as prestigious as Tests ... it presents a wonderful opportunity for every team to develop their young players using this wonderful format. But, as @Mosher bro said in another thread, ODIs must not be moulded as an extention of T20s. There must be a fair fight between the batters snd bowlers. And if this happens, ODIs will rediscover their partly lost magic. We have already seen 5 wonderful.ODIs featuring India against England and the Windies when condtions did not overtly favour the batters. ODIs should remain and be made more interesting with necessary rule changes ... with new players getting ready via this format. Please discuss. Chakdephatte Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 (edited) Agree to everything. But these ex-cricketers convinced us to talk about it by creating unnecessary drama. It's a win for them if they convinced us to discuss. Edited July 26, 2022 by Chakdephatte

Stan AF Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 Problem is not with the format. Problem is with the unnecessary rule changes, two new balls and lack of triangular/quadrangular tournaments that make matches more interesting. Mosher, sandeep, express bowling and 2 others 1 4

Ankit_sharma03 Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 I think a player shud be backed in his best format at start, means a format where he ll be most comfortable at start which cannot be same for everyone For eg Prasidh - i feel will be better in test and then ODI, t20 a big no as of now Umran- cannot play longer format coz he cant control new ball , unless u wanna try him in home test with SG Kishen -t20is coz he lacks any kind of adaptability Rest a lot also depends where slots are open like in test cricket we may have a lot of slots avl in batting soon. We did the same mistake with siraj at start of his career by using him in LOI Stan AF 1
tweaker Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 For odi to be interesting triangular series quadrangular series should be played. The series consisting of India ,Pakistan,Australia,England would be huge blockbuster. A series can be formed by having 2 strong teams and 2 teams ie Ireland,Zimbabwe etc. If a odi series ie Sahara Cup featuring India and Pakistan is scheduled in neutral place, consisting of 5 matches ,Wasim Akram will also have to change his tune regarding odi matches express bowling 1
Clarke Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 (edited) Are tests more profitable than ODIs or is it just a matter of few elite cricketers or boards wanting to continue the oldest format ? The reason this question comes up is to determine whether making ODIs more competitive will make them more sustainable financially. If the masses are majorly consuming T20s only and the other two formats are surviving on handouts, the discussion needs to be broadened to make tests more sustainable as well rather than just target ODIs. Additionally, if the masses are just high on T20s, it will be tough to get them to like ODIs & tests, but its worth a try. Edited July 26, 2022 by Clarke

BCCI may get a good share from broadcaster, not much from ticket sales. Other boards depending upon ICC even in general. One of the reasons why NZ hosts those two match test series. How do they contrast to each other on financials ? Even Bharatiya Rail gives an idea on which tier is sort of profitable/sustainable, why won't the ICC do so

He was exclusively playing T20s. Suddenly as a forced move played at the Gabba and the rest is history. Same with Shardul who was barely good enough in our T20 set up let alone Test set up. He has already done more than enough in Tests. I don't think we can typecast players. Who knows Kishan might be a box office hit in Tests. Pant when he started nobody knew would have better test career than ODI/T20 career. express bowling 1

Sundar has a good technique and his bowling comes in handy in home conditions Shardul moves the ball and has decent technique with bat, he did get a lot of wkts in domestic red ball. Also with thakur its always the help he needs from pitches then format so they have the tools for test , thats how identification happens. Its not that they have locked places in test XI their is massive technique diff in pant n kishen, pant has no weakness ..........he only gets himself out. Infact quality difference is quite big too kishen on other hand has had his struggle caught at very start of his career among major one is adaptability. Cant try everyone every where need to see their skillset Edited July 26, 2022 by Ankit_sharma03

Cant try everyone every where need to see their skillset Technique is huge stretch for Sundar. He barely played any quality long version of cricket to display his technique. It was a fluke discovery. Same with Thakur. Didn't exactly light up first class games like some of the other guys. Same with Pant. Pant was never projected a technician at any point of his career especially at the start. He is always a belligerent player who relies on confidence. Over a period we discovered that he looks better when he takes time and gets the feel of it. Not when he goes bang bang. That is why a below aveage career in T20, above average career in Tests. During the early part of his career he was typecast as ODI material. We have to be open about all the possibilities as players improve dramatically players regress dramatically. Typecasting and shunning them will reduce the pool size.
